Once all of the players have earned their Glory, all players must discard all of their Bands of Allies. To do so, you must earn more Glory (victory points) than your rivals by controlling the Kingdoms on the game board and recruiting the most Allies. You will accomplish your goals by collecting scattered members of the 12 Tribes, represented in the game by cards, and playing them in Bands to gain control over the Kingdoms. Example: if there are 2 of your markers, and 1 of your opponent, to add a marker you need to play a Band with at least 4 cards. Shellhead, thank you for mentioning EEAaO. Watched it last night and it was an enjoyable and unexpected experience. Girlfriend and I talked about it quite a bit afterwards.

In Ethnos, players call upon the support of giants, merfolk, halflings, minotaurs, and other fantasy tribes to help them gain control of the land. After three ages of play, whoever has collected the most glory wins! My oldest daughter played clarinet and I got her a middle grade one so we didn't have to rent it. Of course, just after we got it she quits. In case of a tie, the winner is the tied player with the most Control markers on the board. If a tie persists, victory goes to the largest Band of Allies played in the last Age, then second largest, and so on. Shuffle all the Setup cards and turn over six of them. These cards determine which six Tribes will be used in the game. At the end of the First Age, the player with the most Control markers in each Kingdom earns Glory equal to the lowest Glory token in that Kingdom, as normal.

They would each receive 3 Glory: 4 + 2 = 6, divided by two. Wilfred would still be third and get nothing. Hand Limit: If you already have 10 Ally cards in your hand, you cannot choose this action on your turn. You must Play a Band of Allies instead. a. If the Merfolk are in play, place the Merfolk board next to the main game board with the side matching the number of players in the game face up. Each player places one of their Control markers on the "0" space of the Merfolk board. Ethnos is not over-ambitious in what it sets out to be. It's a light set collection game with area control elements and race abilities. It doesn’t take long to understand how to play, allowing players new to the hobby to begin learning new mechanisms easily. For this reason, Ethnos is a great gateway game. On your mention of Skat that is similar to the game 500 (pretty common in New Zealand and Australia and the Northern US and Canada from what I hear - well, at least in the 70s & 80s) where there are...

Now it's time to see who earns the Glory from the six Kingdoms. Go through all six Kingdoms, scoring them independently: Speaking of which, none of the Races feelsoverpowered and they’re actually quite well balanced. You’ll have a preference forsure but none are really ‘must-haves’. If you play a decent-sized band you’ve done something right no matter the leader of that band.

The End Of An Age

There are 12 different races available with only six in each game (five in the 2-3 player version). The Centaur’s power, for example, allows a player to send a second Band of Allies into Ethnos on their turn. The power of the Wingfolk is to place a control marker on any kingdom no matter what colour the leader is, although the size of the band still has to allow for the placement in that region.

Players continue taking turns recruiting Allies and playing Bands until the third Dragon card is revealed. Turn over only five of the Setup cards (instead of six). There will only be five Tribes in the game. If there is a tie for the most Control markers in a Kingdom, the Glory awards for the tied players are combined together and then divided equally between them (rounded down). In Ethnos, players call upon the support of giants, merfolk, halfings, minotaurs, and other fantasy tribes to help them gain control of the land. After three ages of play, whoever has collected the most glory wins! How to Play Ethnos Round-Up
