Description

As the logs are old coffee grounds, they retain about 20% more energy than wood, meaning they burn much faster. Fireplace logs made of coffee grounds burn hotter longer and emit less carbon dioxide than wood logs, according to companies that manufacture them. The logs from our latest bag of kiln dried firewood were so dry that our moisture meter couldn’t even provide a reading.

Thankfully, with Firemizer, no clumps were left and we were able to brush off the collected ash into the pan. A fuel that reduces landfill waste, burns hotter and more efficiently than wood, can be used in burners and stoves, and offers the faint reassuring aroma of coffee? You can even make your own coffee logs at home if you have sufficient waste grounds and rather a lot of patience. Each log will burn for around an hour before additional logs need to be added to the burner or stove. It is estimated that using coffee grounds as a fuel generates 80% fewer emissions than if they had gone to landfill. The logs provide an excellent way to start or resurrect fires quickly and efficiently (especially when paired with a Firebuilder. The logs themselves still give off that lovely coffee aroma whilst in the packet, so handling and inspecting was joy.

These coffee logs have been shown to burn hotter and longer than traditional wooden logs, do not require any felling of trees, and emit fewer greenhouse gases than burning traditional wooden logs. Instead, they have managed to create a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels that packs the speed and strength of caffeine. Unfortunately we couldn’t do anything about the amount of smoke each log produced when burning, but with the stove doors closed and the flue wide-open, it didn’t linger around the house. When we noticed the fire simmering down after a little while, we placed a couple more logs in to bring it back up and, sure enough, the fire was roaring again within minutes. Smouldering fuel to try to extend burn time is bad for your stove, flue and the environment due to unburned particulate matter in the smoke.

Coffee Logs are made from untreated used coffee grounds mixed with pure wood sawdust and are held together by compression alone.

Moreover, compared with other manufactured logs, coffee-ground logs emit fewer unpleasant odors and do not produce as much soot build-up in the chimney. That makes them a better value option for anyone who wants to heat their home - and because they reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as the waste being discarded, Coffee Logs also help the environment too. From an economical perspective, it’s hard to judge as there are so many variables in everyone’s preffered fires. Hi, I’m James, I’ve been using traditional open fireplaces and wood burning stoves for many years, and I’ve also recently bought a bioethanol fireplace. We genuinely care about the environmental impact of our products, and are constantly working to improve the sustainability of our packaging by using cardboard in place of plastic wherever possible. The official Macmillan Coffee Morning was on Friday 29 September 2023, but you can host when you like.
