Description

I wasn't a fan of Simon Scarrow's writings before, though several years ago, I did read the third book of his Eagles of the Empire series, 'Where The Eagle Hunts', where his protagonists Cato and Macro are assisted in their mission by a young Boudica. I often wondered reading that whether their paths would cross again with her during the events that made Boudica a synonymous figure in British history...Well now that moment has arrived, I knew I had to read this novel, set in one of the events of British history I know so well... Cato is the son of an Imperial Freedman (former slave) in direct service of Emperor Claudius. Being born a slave himself, and the property of the state, he was given an opportunity by the Emperor as a favour to Cato's late father to enlist in the legions and be given his freedom. Cato has lived a relatively luxurious life as a slave within the Imperial palace, in comparison to the rank and file of the legions, and after accepting the Emperor's offer. he joins the Second Augustan as Macro's Optio. To tell what any of those surprises are would spoil the fun when you read the book, so I'll let someone else pull off a spoiler and tell what they are. I will say this much, the title doesn't refer to the emperor, who happens to be Nero, going into exile. If you read the flyleaf on the book, it will tell you and that will spoil one of the surprises, but it's up to you if you want to be surprised or not as you read the book. I have found the previous two books The Emperor’s Exile a waste and ponitless it was just written to get Cato to Britain to join up with Macro again. I found this funny because we have a weakling in the White House (sorry, I should have said the Capitoline), a plague, and civil unrest (AntiFa's ancestors). As Cato's new associate/spy Apollonius asked Cato: "How far can a good man succeed in a corrupt world? I'd like to know the answer to that."

Centurion is a historical fiction novel ( ISBN 0755327764) written by Simon Scarrow, published by Headline Book Publishing in 2007. It is book 8 in the Eagles of the Empire series, continuing Macro and Cato's adventures in the eastern provinces of the Roman Empire that began in The Eagle in the Sand. The Emperor’s Exile is the nineteenth book in the series of Roman novels featuring Cato and Marco. The novel mirrors real life for just as the real world was battling the plague of Covid-19, Cato is faced with a plague epidemic in Sardinia, where he has been sent to restore Roman rule. At the beginning of the book you'll find two well-drawn maps of South-East Britannia and of Londinium in AD 59, as well as a Chain of Command, and not to forget a Cast List, with figures featuring in this great tale.

The other half of the book is Cato heading a cohort and helping Governor Suetonius Paulinus destroy the druids on Mona. Corto y entretenido. Como siempre digo de esta saga, es bueno cuando el autor nos saca de los lugares comunes en este tipo de obras, dando un nuevo aire a los personajes y a nosotros.

When the Eagle Hunts Audiobook | Simon Scarrow | Audible.co.uk". Audible . Retrieved 4 January 2020.Asked by the Edinburgh Book Review about the inspiration behind his interest in the Roman era, Scarrow said, "Firstly, great Latin teachers – Gordon Rodway and then Reg Nash, who inspired a love of the language and more enduringly a fascination with Roman history and culture. Secondly, when I was growing up in the seventies swords and sandals epics seemed to be on the TV regularly. Not to mention the brilliant I, Claudius". [4] A riveting story about dealing with London’s gangs, although does seem to jump around a bit with a slightly unnecessary jaunt for Macro with the veterans. What was also great about this book is finally the scene has been setup for Boudica’s revolt, which has been one of the key things to look forward to for me ever since her introduction in book three (along with reuniting with Vespasian, future clashes with Vitellius, the hope of seeing Figulus again, and the obvious year of the four emperors).

In November 2006, Simon Scarrow was accepted to fill the post of Writer in Residence at Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys, a position he said he was "honoured to accept". [9] Personal life [ edit ] There is also an interesting parallel .story of a Roman column invading Mona (Anglesea) with the intention of destroying the last of the remaining Druids. After Eagle in the Sand, Headline Book Publishing reportedly decided not to use titles with the word Eagle anymore to attract new fans.

Jonathan has also written; directed three award winning short films ROADSIDE, THE PERFECT MURDER and LA BELLE DAME SANS MERCI BY JOHN KEATS. He is currently in post production on ABOUT BEFORE. The difficulty these days is getting from optioned to filmed, and this is the reason for this Petition: For all those fans of this genre and this author\'s great work. Centurion Castor - Centurion of the Tenth legion, killed in action when the Parthians destroy his fort

Cato is leading a Legion in Wales reluctantly whilst Macro now no longer a Legionary is in the reserves but defending Colchester. Jonathan wrote, produced & directed his first feature film SUMMER RAIN (released on DVD in 2006). It won three Best Film Awards and several other awards for acting; photography as well as numerous nominations at film festivals around the world. Meanwhile, Cato has been sent northwest to harry and conquer once and for all the Druids and their followers. By moving the major Roman army units away from southern England, the Romans inadvertently created the opening and window of opportunity for Boudica's rebellion. Again, we know that from history. Cato and the Romans must now counter-march and return to the southeast in an attempt to save Londinium (London).Flavia Domitilla: Vespasian's wife, who, he is chagrined to learn, is a member of the "Liberators," a group of conspirators plotting Claudius's assassination; however in Day of the Caesars, the conspirators have changed their target to Nero, hoping to allow Brittanicus to succeed his father. She also reveals that Julia was faithful to Cato. She kills herself when the coup fails.
