Snowshoe Hares, Snowshoe Hare Pictures, Snowshoe Hare Facts – National Geographic. Animals.nationalgeographic.com. Retrieved on 2011-12-11. Snowshoe hares reach maturity after one year. Some live up to five years in the wild, but most don’t even live for one year. All of the characters in this novel are strikingly different from others I’ve read about but I immediately felt a connection with them. Lena is the protagonist of "The Snow Hare," and we get to see how events change her as she develops from a young girl to a woman. In fact, the fortune-teller provides hints for her future when she says: Lena has her life planned out. She is going to be a dr, one of the first females to begin training in Poland, but life has other plans for her. Entering a loveless marriage following an accident she and her family are transported to Siberia when the Soviets invade Poland.

Snowshoe hares feet are covered in long fur, which helps to protect them from the cold winter temperatures. There’s a rustling sound, a ripping of plastic. A woman is speaking, the voice telling her something is here now to ease the pain, to help her sleep. Hares greatly influence the world around them, including the vegetation, predators, and other herbivores and omnivores that live in the same habitats. Hares browse heavily on vegetation. Browsing affects the growth of plants and stimulates plants to produce secondary compounds that make them unpalatable for hares and other omnivores.

Throughout the second half of the book, you get the sense of foreboding - you know where Lena ends up, and you know that not everyone makes it. It's just a question of how it will happen, and it hovers over everything, making it so much more painful as you can't help getting attached to her family. And everyone and everything in that world was against that. She lived not the life she desired but the one into which she was thrown. But from everything bad that happened to her, she always ended with some happiness. Unhappy marriage, but the daughter she loved, the camp in taiga in Siberia, but the man she loved… About the book: “In this "riveting, heartfelt" novel of love and consequences (Heather Morris, New York Times bestselling author of The Tattooist of Auschwitz), a woman dreams of becoming a doctor until World War II leads her instead into an astonishing love—and a fateful choice. a b c d e f g h i j k l Bittner, Steven L.; Rongstad, Orrin J. Corresponding author This book is somewhat more into a story instead of giving some historical facts. It only provide me a plot and characters. the historical events nor political stuffs did not exist here. it was quite shallow on exposing historical stuff. Even the story wasn't really giving a depth. i love the MC, she is indeed a strong & independant woman who never fear to take a leap for the one that she loved. I also like the love story created here but it wasn't really memorable. Myers, J. H. Population cycles: generalities, exceptions and remaining mysteries. Proc. R. Soc. B 285, 20172841 (2018).
