The recommended interval for replacing Mercedes-Benz coolant can vary depending on the specific model and type of coolant used. As a general guideline, Mercedes-Benz suggests replacing the coolant every three to five years or approximately every 30,000 to 50,000 miles. However, these are general recommendations, and the actual replacement intervals may vary based on factors such as driving conditions, climate, and the coolant type used. Car maintenance is really important to avoid repairs and save you money, so don't forget that if you're

Choosing the correct fluids for your car is one of the most daunting tasks for a new DIYer. The local auto parts store will have walls lined with oils, solvents, and fluids as far as the eye can see without the definitive information you need. Choosing the right engine coolant is no different. Is it the green kind or the pink kind? Maybe the blue one? In Mercedes’ case, it could be any of the three depending on which engine you have. Coolant composition has changed over the years as engine system materials have evolved for better efficiency, so you’ll need to know which one is for your Mercedes before topping up your cooling system. You can ensure the longevity and efficiency of your vehicle’s cooling system by regularly replacing your Mercedes-Benz coolant. When you visit us at South Coast Garage, our specialised technicians will expertly flush, drain, and refill your coolant system with the correct coolant. You can trust us to keep your Mercedes-Benz running like new. Top Tips for Maintaining Your Mercedes-Benz Cooling System None other than the user may want to use the pre-mixed product due to ease of handling or cost and visa versa. The newer OAT coolants work differently than the older silicate based IAT coolants. Aluminium and ferrous metals form a surface-layer of corrosion in the presence of moisture, even with the little bit of moisture in the air. OAT coolants prevent this metal-oxide layer that protects the surface against this corrosion. Inherent with their design, the OAT coolants last longer than the older traditional IAT coolants. This category of antifreeze cannot be used in systems containing yellow metals. To help clear some of the confusion up on the more technical details of antifreeze and coolants we enlisted the help of Martyn Mann – Technical Director, Millers Oils UK - who has provided the information below.

Just about every Mercedes engine in the last 25 years is going to take one of two possible specifications of coolant, according to Mercedes. The difference between them resides in a couple of chemicals that have been removed from the newer coolant specification, Borate and 2- ethyl hexanoic acid to be specific. As such, the new coolant is compatible with older engines, but the old formulation shouldn’t be used in a newer application. During the coolant flush procedure, our expert technicians will inspect your radiator, water pump, belts, and hoses for any signs of leaks or potential issues. Our proactive approach to detecting problems allows us to fix them earlier on before an issue can get any worse, thereby saving you valuable time, stress, and money. Mercedes recommends a coolant flush and refill every 30,000 miles or every two years, whichever happens first. Truthfully, you'll be fine to run the same coolant for a bit longer than that, but the antifreeze's cooling and protective properties won't be as strong as they were. That is especially the case with the older 325.0-spec Q1030002 and Q1030004 bottles of antifreeze. The newest 325.6 formula, part number Q1030005, has improved durability, so it should retain its properties for longer.Perhaps the most frequent cause of confusion is what the difference between anti-freeze or coolant is. Basically, they’re the same product (although the term “coolant” could just be applied to plain water; see below!) It is always best to use the engine manufacturer’s advice. If engine contains yellow metals [copper and brass as in older vehicles] then the long life products based on organic technology should not be used. As a general rule, most modern engines require the long life organic antifreezes.
