Funny, you should have read the reply I got back from Hershey's about their "Air Delights" chocolates. The Walmart near my workplace has it in 24 can cases, as does usually the Marsh (supermarket) near my home. Fast drying and ready mixed, they can be sanded after application for a smooth finish and don’t shrink and crack after over time. Not only is it grainer but it dries hard as a rock, nearly impossible to sand (by hand) and makes a very poor watered down version for fill coating balsa.

I’ve also tried a plastic wood for burns in the past……prestain a blob of it, fill the burn and touch up the spot little by little with a Q tip dipped in your stain. As for the product, I have been using it for years and highly recommend it for filling holes in wood and have used it for garage door dings, window rot and decking posts gouges. The way I ground the balsa resulted in some longer wood fibres being produced, which may have some effect on the final consistency. The stainable wood filler doesn’t match the texture of the wood around it, even when you prestain the blob of it ahead of time in a paper cup before filling the burn hole.

I like the square container (easier to scrape out with a putty knife or taping knife), but Elmer needs to provide one that seals tight. Unwanted holes or chips in your wood furniture do not mean the end of your favorite household pieces. This way you can get a closer match to the stain color you will be using and it’ll conceal the repaired area far better. Elmer's carpenter's Wood filler for interior use is ideal for repairing holes, dents, scratches, gouges and defects on any wood, wallboard, molding or painted surface. Our wood fillers come in a variety of assorted colors or in a stainable formula that allows for easy stain matching.Well part of the wood dowel broke leaving half a dowel normally I’d attempt to glue the broken wood that came off and I tried that but I couldn’t get the clamp to stay still, so I threw the broken part away and put wood putty in it’s place and formed the putty into the same shape as the dowel was originally. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. In fact I’ve glued broken wood pieces back together filled the gaps with wood putty then went to sand the area and I noticed that I could no longer see where the crack was, since I applied enough on so this wood filler can really work but it depends is the environment more humid or more dry. By purchasing this product from JB Tools, the manufacturers’ warranty, if any, potentially associated with the product may not be honored by the manufacturer. So I sanded down a Boba Fett helmet dome portion too far and the infill was quite visible and you could feel it, so instead of caking on Bondo I got some Elmer's Wood Filler Interior, watered it down and painted it on, fixed that issue wonderfully HOWEVER it is not very hard and I can put cuts in it with just my fingernails, so I'm wondering if anyone's used this before, does it hold primer well, and have I ruined my helmet?

They did have one last tube of the plain wood filler (though, it just listed it as interior, rather than the usual interior/exterior). But then the harden putty just fell off but I think it was too dry, so I’m going to try again since I’m getting more.

I usually use the 2 oz tubs, and it takes me a long time to go through it, so when I eventually crack open the 32 oz one, I'll portion it out and make sure I keep it sealed/moist.

JB Tools Non-Affiliation Notice and Disclaimer: JB Tools holds itself out as neither the manufacturer, an affiliate of the manufacturer, or an “authorized” distributor of this product. If you leave excess and plan to sand it off that will work too, but you will go through a lot of sandpaper ; ) This filler dries super hard - much moreso than typical wood-fill or vinyl spackle. The content contained on this site is provided for informational purposes only and does not constitute professional advice. For me, the metal of a putty knife wants to pull Timbermate a bit out of the hole if you work it too much, but using a little block of wood right after applying the filler really locks it in and levels the filler fast. As you sand, you will likely encounter areas of putty that haven't fully cured, so this mix may need to be sanded in stages, depending on how bug of a void you're fillling.

If it was actually better in some way it seems like they'd either keep selling it or incorporate the formula in the current product. Well, I'm not terribly scientific about it, I just ground up a bunch of balsa scraps using a dremel, and dumped some elmers in.
