Description

This fearless, often outrageously funny, account of life, learning, and growing with ADHD reveals the strategies Rich and Rox use to reduce shame, improve communication, and find happiness in their neurodivergent household. it will help you manage expectations curb your anxiety and keep your sanity, no matter the side of the fence you're on. Filled with heartbreak and humor in equal measure, Dirty Laundry is an invaluable resource both for neurodivergents and the people who love them. Which also seems like those people are less likely to be picking this book up with the tagline it has but…I digress. I liked this book, which discusses the several symptoms of ADHD Rox deals with and how she and her husband Rich navigate them.

I just wrote and then deleted a massive list of the things I am going to try and be more compassionate about – but you don’t really need to know that! But after listening to this book I realise that it’s not hopeless, it’s just hard work, and I will absolutely encourage future partners to listen to this book. Chapters are split into Rox providing a dull anecdote, and some advice which is "I rely on Rich", followed by Rich providing the exact same anecdote and advice only worded slightly differently. The couple have obviously struggled with her ADHD throughout their relationship, but penning twee anecdotes based on their TikTok / Instagram content does not a book make. NOTE: other restrictions can be a result of our security platform detecting potential malicious activity. However, much like the ADHD half of these two authors, I also have done a lot of “tik tok learning” about ADHD- meaning most of these conversations were on my FYP…two years ago. If the message of the book wasn't so forced on the "I-know-because-I-got-diagnoses" and filled with advice that is just really bad, I would not have cared either. Pay attention to times when you’re rushing or overwhelmed – this is when you’re most likely to be forgetting something.

While it's beautiful to see so much non-judgement, the American toxic individuality baked right into my psyche had a real problem with just how far that support went. And Rich's side of the ADHD struggles makes me hopeful that I don't have to hide that part of myself away. I really liked the fact that you get the perspective of the person with adhd and also the person who lives with them. I really REALLY wanted there to be concrete things that would be helpful to focus on in therapy (for example), or heck, even an explanation as to why certain types of therapy might be more or less effective. Having struggled with similar relationship troubles, hearing “people can be a hyper focus” allowed me to finally be able to understand and explain my past behavior. It will also help to educate partners, parents and friends, to help them move from frustration to patience, understanding – and love.

uniwersalności, mam wrażenie że rady były spisane konkretnie pod tą autorkę, brakowało mi tu strasznie opisu ogólnych objawów ADHD a nie tylko z perspektywy jednej osoby. These are funny, true, and sometimes unexpectedly touching, and the book brings all of this to the table.

However, as a prescription for other people makes me cringe and worry about the long-term feasibility.
