I don't want all over colour and I definitely don't want to go darker. I'm quite happy with my natural colour but I dont suppose my stylist will be able to match it exactly. I guess I'd like some lights dotted around, maybe a shade or two lighter than my own, to blend in as much of the grey as possible. I don't want it to be glaringly noticeable as it grows out, either. I'm not brave! I've got to 50 without feeling the need to colour my hair and I'm really quite apprehensive. I have been using this set for the past 2 weeks so far however I don’t wash my hair daily, I believe to date I have used the products 5 times. In hindsight I probably should have taken before and after photos, I forgot to so sorry I don’t have that for you. Both the shampoo and conditioner smell amazing to use. Not too dissimilar to a premium fragrance, the divine scent creates a luxurious experience from what could be a mundane task. The silky texture of the chestnut shade shampoo feels lovely too and it lathers into a rich foam easily, and even though the product is coloured, it doesn’t leave a mark on my hands. John Frieda’s latest game changer comes in the guise of the new Defy Grey haircare system. A range of home use products comprising a shampoo, conditioner and blow dry foam, Defy Grey promises noticeable results after a single wash, thanks to its revolutionary blending coffee extract formula.

I grew to quite like this new ‘streaked’ look. It wasn’t a perfect set of highlights but I was free of the grey. It just probably wasn’t the drastic change I was imagining. For some reason, I dreamt the grey would turn chocolatey, and that the whitened patches would reappear in full colour, but it didn’t quite work that way. While the grey had warmed to a softer shade of milky coffee, I craved a more vibrant result. I still had the pale hair around my ears, the faded strands beneath my ponytail and the streaks running from my crown. I just didn’t feel polished. Hair is left soft and manageable. If, like me you are trying to hold off dying your hair for now, give this a whirl. Both my parents, despite being dark-haired we never really that grey. Neither of them ever used hair dye and still only had a few greys. Their deaths certainly gave me a few of my own, but I’m still at that stage where I can pull out the odd one and get away with it. After I first wrote about my grey hair quandary, I chanced upon a new haircare range by John Frieda, and it was quite the miraculous discovery. Torn between colouring and not colouring, I realised there was a mid ground solution I needed to give a go, and to my surprise the lovely folk at John Frieda agreed. I can say that the shampoo itself doesn’t have much of a scent at all, the consistency is quite liquidy and is a shimmery brown in colour. It lathers well once applied to wet hair. It is recommended to leave on for 5 minutes before washing out upon first use, and then 3 minutes for each consecutive use.

Brunette Blending Blow Dry Foam The foam itself doesn’t have a scent and is a light beige in colour. Make sure to wash your hands after applying to the hair or it will stain your skin ! It is easily spread throughout the hair, although I did concentrate on the front of my hairline as this is where I have most Grey’s. DISCLOSURE: AD / This post contains gifted product from JOHN FRIEDA. All words, images & opinion expressed is my own.

If you do have the first signs of grey or would like to prolonge your dye job I would definitely recommend this range and am glad that I got the chance to try it. I can’t really comment on these products individually about the effects as I did use them in combination with each other so will give my opinion at the end of this review. I do think this will be great to prolong my dyed hair for a few more weeks in-between dyings and I will continue to use it . It does leave my hair looking healthier and more manageable.I have tried calling John Frieda who have sworn up and down it doesn't dye the hair and will wash out eventually and they have also sent me out some Violet Crush shampoo to try and tone the yellow down and that has done nothing either.

In regards to the Grey hairs it has blended in quite a few of them although they are not completely gone. I did have quite a few very white hairs at the front that are not as prominent now but they are still white.

I’ve been dyeing my hair – mainly to keep on top of my greys – for more years than I can remember. I was somewhere in my late teens when hair colouring was done for fun and feeling ‘grown up’ rather than necessity. But recently I grew tired of the upkeep in maintaining a look of youthfulness and perfection I was far from feeling, so I gave up on the dye. I hate the colour my hair invariably goes with dyes or semi permanents. Hate it. I like my natural colour! The same goes for the conditioner in regards to directions, leave on 5 mins for the first use and 3 minutes consecutively. Upon washing the conditioner out the hair feels very sleek and smooth. Amazingly it didn’t take long for me to notice a change in my look – definitely after the second wash, my greys were no longer silver but warming to a soft caramel. The sharp metallic glint that best resembled sparkly lametta on a Christmas tree was now gone; in its place, an interesting colour palette of textured browns. All I can say is that it has been an unmitigated disaster. The hair that was white has all gone really bright yellow. I have washed it what feels like a thousand times in Head and Shoulders but nothing has happened apart from the yellow looks like it gets brighter to me.

Around the temple area I had quite a few grey silvery strands that are starting to blend in a little better. I suspect with continued use they may blend in even more. I’m not going to lie though, it isn’t a miracle worker, nothing compares to actually dying your hair.Aqua, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Glycol Distearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Sodium Chloride, Propylene Glycol, Cocamide MEA, Parfum, Malic Acid, Lactic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Benzyl Alcohol, Dimethyl Isosorbide, HC Blue No. 2, Dicetyldimonium Chloride, Disodium EDTA, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, 2-Amino-6-Chloro-4-Nitrophenol, HC Red No. 3, Glycine, PPG-9, 4-Hydroxypropylamino-3-Nitrophenol, Glycerin, Coffea Arabica Seed Extract, Sodium Benzoate, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Phenoxyethanol, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Hydroxycitronellal, Limonene. This John Frieda Defy Grey Brunette Blending Shampoo gradually blends away first greys into brunette tones. With Coffee Extract & GreyBlend™ Technology. I would say before starting the trial I had let my hair go a little longer so hadn’t dyed for about 8 weeks. There was a clear definition as to where my hair had grown out and the Grey’s were pretty rife 😅 Needless to say this trial couldn’t have came at a better time. So let me tell you how I got on… Whether or not to go grey is, of course, a deeply personal and emotional choice; one that can be defining in how we see ourselves ageing. So when it begins to happen, the most important thing is that we feel empowered to have a choice; to be armed with the right information on how to get the best out of our hair, whatever the shade. And then to be prepared for compliments incoming… DISCLAIMER: NOT A ROOT TOUCH UP PRODUCT. Not intended for use on patchy areas or high levels of grey. Avoid intentionally working into scalp roots/partline to avoid skin staining. Ingredients
