Description
I got my first taste of the Fantastically Great Women at West End Live last September, where they performed ‘A World of Colour’ and ‘Fantastically Great’. The former, which is sang by Frida Kahlo (Jade Kennedy), is, without a doubt, the musical’s best song. I’ve been waiting patiently to see them perform it again – this time, the real thing – and I was not disappointed. I was supposed to see the musical in Liverpool over Christmas, but, alas, covid, so it was wonderful to finally see it – especially that song.
Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World review
I especially enjoyed the inclusion of Manchester’s own Emmeline Pankhurst – who Kate Pankhurst discovered she is related to whilst writing the book. Kirstie Skivington spoke with a broad Mancunian accent for the role, which was a nice touch. Hearing aid user? Switch to the 'T' position once inside the auditorium to use our induction loop system. Handy tip: this system works best if you're sat in the centre of the auditorium so chat to our Box Office (01243 781312 or [email protected]) when booking if you'd like to use this service. Head out of the main entrance towards The Foundry Pub, walk past the pub with it on your left and straight up South Street until you come to The Cross (stone monument) which indicates an intersection of four streets. Continue straight ahead up North Street. At the top of North Street is a ring road, take the pedestrian underpass to North Gate Car Park and continue through the car park to reach the Theatre on the far side. Bus We also have two sets of ladies and gents in the Festival Theatre and another two sets in the Minerva (offering a total of 63 cubicles, four of which are ambulant, and 27 urinals), so there's no shortage of places to spend a penny.I’ve learnt a lot just over the last four weeks of rehearsals so hopefully that translates on stage. I love how Chris (Bush) who has adapted the book into the play has made the stories of women who wouldn’t have crossed in real time combined them. So you have Amelia Earhart and Sacagawea, who would never have met in real time doing a scene together and they know each other and are friends in this after life. And then Emmeline Pankhurst pops in and speaks to them as well! And it’s cool how their relationships are built within the story. It’s like a celebration and helping Jade. It was only as I got older I started to question what was happening around me. Becoming a mother has also made me notice so much more about inequality.”

These are the stories of incredible female scientists whose hard work and persistence changed our understanding of science, and transformed people's ideas of what women can do. That all-female team includes Chris Bush – who adapted the words – with music by Miranda Cooper – who has written for Girls Aloud and the Sugababes – and direction from Olivier-nominated Amy Hodge, who has worked at the National Theatre, the Young Vic and the Royal Exchange.

Books like that and conversations like that didn’t exist when I was at school. I didn’t learn anything about what women did at school,” says Pankhurst. “Conversations I have with children are more direct and informed now.” There's step free access to the café and toilets, foyer and Festival Theatre which are all at ground level with no steps to negotiate. Why do you think it is important to bring women’s history to the theatre and how do you think this show helps? On Thursday and Saturday mornings we extend the family spaces at our Pop-Up Family Fun so even more families can have fun.
