Description

Full of information about the nature, history, and training of military service canines, War Dogs sometimes reads like an adventure and sometimes reads like a novel that focuses on relationships and affection (here between a soldier and a dog). It is a very satisfying and often emotional read.”—Stanley Coren, author of The Wisdom of Dogs

The book is filled with many heart-warming stories of the affection that dogs and soldiers show each other. One theme that emerges is the reluctance of the dog handlers to admit that there is a love been them and their dogs. Perhaps it is a coping mechanism. With all of the stories presented, it is hard to believe that is not a mutually shared love in these unique relationships. A compelling look at the important role that dogs have played in America's most recent military conflicts, replete with the touching stories of individual dogs and their handlers/soldiers

I cant really tell who the authors audience was.I would make a hypothesis that the audience was primary students and any law enforcement or the dog activists. I say this because the book is about a dog that is forced to leave his owner, and taken to the army and is trained to become this all important dog that helps the army in missions. This book was interesting to me a student so i think its meant for any student. As well as any person who has an interest between wars and dogs. I was excited to be offered the chance to read and review this book. Due to my love of military themed books and dogs. The author really gives a nice in depth look into the relationship between the dogs and their handlers. Which I really liked this about this book. The psychological aspect of the handler and the dog's relationship. Honesty, as I was reading this book it was not just the military dogs that I could see having a close relationship but my own two dogs as well. I have always shared a very close and personal relationship with all the dogs that I have owned through out the years. My dogs are not just dogs but really are part of my family and they are my children. I believe that I can talk to dogs and they do understand me. So again I get where the people featured in this book are coming from when they share their stories. Dogs are amazing. There were a few times where I did get very emotionally attached to the stories as if I had known these dogs all my life. Ito, Robert (2016-08-12). "Guns. Money. Iraq. And Then a Screenplay for 'War Dogs.' ". The New York Times. ISSN 0362-4331. Archived from the original on 2018-02-11 . Retrieved 2016-08-29.It is a great example of historical fiction. The story is very realistic. I'm usually not a fan of war stories but Martin Booth has captured the essence of war and the heart of the people and animals who endure the consequences. a b "War Dogs (2016)". Rotten Tomatoes. A great book for middle-grade readers about WW2, without the details of gore and horror in war books for older readers. I think both boys and girls alike would really get into this, with the fighting action and of course, the heroics of Jet the War Dog! Anthony D'Alessandro (November 12, 2015). "Warner Bros. Moves Todd Phillips' 'Arms & The Dudes' To Summer". Deadline Hollywood . Retrieved 2015-11-14. I am unashamedly a dog person and I loved this book. Ms Frankel takes you right into the heart of the Military Working Dog program with all its heartbreak and grit. It takes a special dog to be a MWD but it also takes a special person to work with the special dog.Full of compelling stories about military dogs and the handlers who love them (and are often told not to). ... Frankel has done a brilliant job of taking us into another world of dogs and soldiers in war.”— Patricia McConnell, author of The Other End of the Leash The history of dogs in the US military is long and rich, from the spirit-lifting mascots of the Civil War to the dogs still leading patrols hunting for IEDs today. Frankel not only interviewed handlers who deployed with dogs in wars from Vietnam to Iraq, but top military commanders, K-9 program managers, combat-trained therapists who brought dogs into war zones as part of a preemptive measure to stave off PTSD, and veterinary technicians stationed in Bagram. She makes a passionate case for maintaining a robust war-dog force. In a post-9/11 world rife with terrorist threats, nothing is more effective than a bomb-sniffing dog and his handler.
