Description

Warriors of Chaos, including an Aspiring Champion and featuring a choice of helmeted and unhelmeted heads - including a mix of male and female faces. This set is supplied with 10x 32mm Hex Hole Round base, 5x 75mm Hex Hole Oval Bases, and 1x 90mm Hex Hole Oval base.

Analysis: This is of limited use to Archaon and a nice thing to have if you’re one of the ten people in possession of a Chaos War Mammoth. In most cases, this is a whiff largely because most monsters we have access to either have a very forgiving wounds table or they’re simply not worth the effort and spell slot. Grade: D- He is available globally from the Forge World webstore, but if you’re in the UK, Europe, Japan, or the USA, you can also get him from the Games Workshop webstore. Thousand Sons MKVI UpgradesGenerally speaking, Nurgle tends to pull ahead mathematically. All Nurgle heroes grant Reroll 1s to wound, and as wound buffs are harder to come by you generally want them when you can get them. If its your general it gives a +1 to damage. Ouch! Khorne has some value as a General, allowing you to reroll 1s to hit or +1 to wound if its your general. Slaanesh is pretty limited and Undivided and Tzeentch can go in the dumpster. Whispers of Chaos (Casting Value 7)– Roll 1d6 for every model in a unit within 12″. For each 6, target unit takes 1 mortal wound. If any models were slain as a result of this spell, said unit cannot is unable to move until your next hero phase.

Huge swathes of the range are getting updated. First up, and cutting a mean-silhouette in their heavy armour and swirling capes, are the Chaos Warriors. This is a brand new multipart kit with new options, including a choice of hand weapons or halberds, an aspiring champion, a standard bearer, and a musician. There are some minor options available – two head options for the Karkadrak Lord and head options for the warriors (male and female which is cool). There’s also the option to build a Doom Knight champion, with a Doom Flail, for the Chaos Knights to give extra Doom.

This also works both ways, as units with the Mark of Chaos ability can be taken freely in the mono-god Battletomes. For example Chaos Warriors with the Nurgle mark can be taken in the Nurgle allegiance freely without needing to be allied in. There will be more details on the endless hordes coming to Warhammer Community in time – get all the news delivered to your inbox by signing up for the newsletter.

A bonus to mention is the Warcry Cultists which used to be ignored but saw a slight improvement in Broken Realms: Morathi with an ability to gain Marks of Chaos in a specific subfaction which didn’t quite get them there. They finally crossed the finish line in White Dwarf which finally made them battleline if the mark matches your General which makes Iron Golemsand Spire Tyrants notable when marked with Nurgle and Khorne, respectively. Other Units Dark Master is a super cool ability, and on a 3+, you can take out an enemy hero for an entire turn and just mess up your opponent so much. It takes an experienced commander to know every angle of such a wide-ranging faction, so we’ve asked our playtester Russ Veal for his thoughts on how the Slaves to Darkness are set to perform in the new edition. After all, he’s been marching with the mortal followers of Chaos since before the World-that-Was fell. Chaos Warriors are the hardened soldiers clad in grimy metal that make up the bulk of Slaves to Darkness armies. They can be armed with hand weapons or ensorceled halberds, and have options for creating a commander, banner bearer and musician.* Chaos KnightsThis command ability is incredibly powerful for two reasons: Firstly it allows us to plan for double turns. Double turns themselves – that is when you go second in one battle round and then first in the next round after winning the priority roll – are potentially game swinging events that often can completely change the dynamic of the game. This mechanic has always been contested amongst the Age of Sigmar community, and this command ability is the first time we’ve seen armies interact with this mechanic. Rumor is that there will be an additional sprue included with the ETB knights from the Start Collecting Box set that will have bits for the musician, standard bearer, champion etc. Last but not least is the Chaos Sorceror Lord on Manticore, and there’s not much cooler than a Sorceror on a Manticore! AoS Slaves to Darkness Model Leaks! Blasphemous Cuirass: Roll a dice each time a mortal wound is allocated to the bearer. On a 5+, that mortal wound is negated. A solid if boring defensive artefact that may see use if you are in a particular MW heavy meta. C+ Now we’re talking – this battalion is extremely good, especially when combined with Marauders that die in droves and can be taken in units of forty. Combine with the Nurgle Daemon Prince’s command ability and you have an absolute torrent of mortal wounds being dished out to your opponent for daring to try and clear away your chaffe units in melee. For some reason they also decided to give it a second D3 mortal wounds in your hero phase too, which is a nice bonus I guess! Pleasurebound Warband

You also get your own artefacts and traits like other subfactions, remember your Varanguard that compose most of your list get to take these which can be very helpful for coordination of these units. Command Traits Next Panoply of Ruin is an attempt at making cultists worth a damn. First, on the charge they can change the lower die to match the higher die. So if you roll a 1 and a 6, the 1 becomes a 6. If you roll doubles, you can turn one into a 6. Alone, not so great but the FAQ handed them a bit of a bone: If you upgrade a Chaos Chariot or Gorebeast Chariot to an Idolator Lord then all Cultist units gain the Mark of Chaos matching the Idolator Lord’s choice. There are some nasty combos someone can do with that. Iron Beasts with the Nurgle keyword becoming near unmovable juggernauts being the most egregious example.Unquestioned Resolve: Once per turn, you may use the At the Double (auto run 6″), Forward to Victory (reroll charge) or Inspiring Presence (auto pass morale) command ability without a command point being spent if the friendly unit is a Cultists unit within 12″ of this general. Not needing a command point to use these abilities is nice as we want to save ours for Rally the Tribes, so a reasonable inclusion if the hero is fulfilling a support role. C- If we were to confine ourselves to just the contents of this book, armies of Slaves to Darkness provides the flexibility to create your own legion that can specialize to create different playing styles. Depending on the legion you select, there are options here for:
