Montane Ajax GORE-TEX Jacket The Montane Ajax Jacket is a tough uncompromising winter mountaineering shell designed for all-mountain use, a GORE-TEX fabrication surrounds you with lightweight breathability and unprecedented waterproof protection. Fit-wise, I’d say the Ajax has less bagginess around the torso than other similar four-season rated jackets. The main construction is a tough 40 Denier fabric with 70 Denier reinforcements in high abrasion areas such as the shoulders, arms and chest.

We do not offer to reimburse postage costs if an item doesn't fit / you don't like it / change of mind etc. It protects the surface of the fabric from becoming saturated with water and dirt and helps repel light rain. The GORE-TEX fabric is combining a lighter weight 40 Denier fabric on the chest and with 70 Denier reinforcements in high abrasion areas like the shoulders, hips and arms. Rugged 70-denier nylon patches on the shoulders and hips make it tough enough for us to haul heavy packs on long ski tours, while 40-denier nylon everywhere else enhances breathability on trail runs and keeps weight down. The close fit, helmet compatible hood and articulated arms make it a versatile and unrestrictive protection layer for fast-paced mountain sport. It’s relatively close fitting so I cannot wear my Winter duvet jacket underneath it, you need to layer up and use thinner down/pile jackets to act as a thermal layer. The adjustable hood is also very well designed so that you can wear a hat, helmet or nothing and it remains in place in head strong winds.

From the very outset, it certainly comes across as a no nonsense, go-anywhere-do-anything kind of waterproof jacket. This is great in terms of waterproofness, but a bit annoying when you have to take your gloves off to open and shut the zip and pockets.

Weighing in at 444g, it’s neither the lightest or the heaviest they make and is designed to be suitable for a diverse range of activities, whether that’s summer hillwalking or four-season mountaineering. The Men's Mammut Crater HS Hooded Jacket is an excellent all-round mountain waterproof that will see you through a whole range of outdoor activities. On the subject of articulation, I’ve found it’s possible to fully reach upwards without the hem lifting. It’s easy to adjust with a compression pull cord on the rear to adjust the volume of the hood and some internal draw cords to adjust the hood around the face neatly. Built with 75 denier fabrics throughout and 3-layer Gore-Tex, this jacket is designed to withstand heavy use.

We will always try to be very clear about the fault/repair to the item but occasionally there may be a small fault that is missed. Warranty on footwear does not cover damage deriving from : inappropriate use of the footwear; incorrect or absent product care; improper repairs; modifications or alterations of the footwear and general wear and tear. Having had the jacket for six months now, using it in a variety of situations, the brighter colour is however, already starting to show the dirt from its endeavours. We currently only deliver within the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, Channel Islands and Isle of Man. This flexibility allows the jacket to be packed away easily and stows in less space than my previous one.

I also think climbers would’ve appreciated a two-way zip so that it could be pulled on over a harness when you’re climbing. One aspect we did enjoy that may not be to everyone's liking is the colour, we were given the Firefly Orange which certainly marks you out on the hill especially in winter. The Ajax SMU Gore Active Jacket is ideal for those looking for a no-nonsense, uncompromising waterproof shell jacket. Wash at 30°C on a gentle machine cycle with a non-biological detergent (without a built-in fabric softener) ensuring all zips and hook and loop sections are fastened. Having tested the Ajax in many different situations over the past six months from packrafting in Canada to hiking in the Scottish highlands, it’s had everything thrown at it, and it hasn’t missed a beat.

A small zipped chest pocket is perfectly positioned for stashing small items such as trail mix for snacking on the go. No jacket we have used over the past few seasons has coped with extended periods of heavy rain and snow quite like the Ajax. The material has a soft and flexible feel to it but without a sense of losing any durability, which is different to the predecessor (in my wardrobe) which had a stiffer feel to the fabric when packing away (but it was 15 years old and technical jackets have come along a lot in this time). The two handwarmer pockets are placed out of the way of a hipbelt or harness, and they each pass the ‘can it fit an OS map’ test.Outdoor Action Ltd retains discretion as to whether to accept unwanted goods after a period of 28 days. All Montane garments come with care labels which include wash care instructions relating to the fabric composition used to create the garment. e animal hair's, odors from smoke or fragrances, or any sign that goods have been used other than inspecting indoors.
