Description

Rare Breed offers its own set of nuances, with layers of subtle complexity most likely attributed to the range of ages that make up the blend. Any investment and purchase made, or action(s) taken based upon (information in) the Service may and will involve significant risk (such as, but not limited to loss, total loss).

There is this ultra-mature aged wood scent that smells like a cross between wood polish and seasoned oak. Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye is loaded with citrus, licorice, pineapple, honey, and anise followed by lighter roasted oak, cinnamon, thyme, and fennel with some caraway seed rye breadiness. If you would like to change your settings or withdraw consent at any time, the link to do so is in our privacy policy accessible from our home page.Sure, Wild Turkey has long held its devoted fans and supporters, but a bulk of the bourbon-crazed population has only recently opened their minds (and wallets) to Lawrenceburg’s Finest. With swirling, Rare Breed emits a lot of citrusy caramel and honey with vanilla, burnt wood, baked apples, cinnamon, licorice, and a light dried grassy note. Smoother than bond charming money penny, tastier than Carol Smiley: this bourbon will make you feel loved like only your mum can while teasing you how your first love did. There’s nothing that delivers the rush of excitement for whiskey enthusiasts quite like when a producer announces a brand new product for their permanent portfolio. Cornerstone from Wild Turkey's excellent Master’s Keep series marks the oldest rye whiskey it has ever released.

The methods that spirits were produced across the industry were quietly changed sometime in the mid-1980’s. On the finish, I’m first left with sweet honey, green grapes, licorice, cinnamon, and oak tannins that over time turn into apple and citrus peel, licorice, and oak.If you’re unfamiliar with chill filtering, it’s the act of passing the whiskey through a media (sometimes silk or paper filters, sometimes a layer of fine charcoal) after chilling it down to 40 degrees or less. The Wild Turkey distillery is unusual in that its standard bottling is at 101 proof, considerably higher than the 80 proof norm. Up till now, they’ve had Wild Turkey Rye 81 / 101 proof, Russell’s Reserve 6 year and Single Barrel ryes, and the 2019 Wild Turkey Master’s Keep Cornerstone Rye. Rare Breed Rye skews a little more sweet, fruity, and herbal with a little less earthiness and vegetalness, and the fairly hefty ABV stays out of the way.

Like many of the other major Kentucky distilleries, Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye uses 51% rye in the mash, the same as Heaven Hill and Buffalo Trace (supposedly). An interesting side note: Wild Turkey is now using only non-GMO grains (corn, rye, barley) in its mash bills. This depth carries on throughout the finish, ending with a seemingly never-ending trail of diminishing spice. Chewing” leaves more alcohol tingle in my mouth with honey, licorice, rosemary, dried apple, roasted oak, cinnamon, and clove, but overall is mostly the same.Use those 3-4 glasses for cocktails, or let them air out in the glass for at least an hour before consuming because the alcohol is very hot. Before signing off I’d like to mention that we’re approaching the 30th anniversary of Wild Turkey Rare Breed. And if you happen to have had it before, Wild Turkey Rare Breed smells like a bigger and more mature Wilderness Trail Single Barrel bourbon. It requires a stark-white background and adequate lighting to assess the color difference, which is more in density than tone.
