It is the magnum opus "Telegraph road", the almost theatrical and yet mystifying "Private investigations", and for the owners of the CD version of the album (not included in the vinyl version), the lovely "Love over gold".
Sultans of swing" is the centerpiece, not just because it is placed in the middle of the concert, but mostly because it proves better than any other track in the album, that a track can be new every time it is played live, even if you have heard it a million times. Ethan Larsh, an artist known for his exploration of various genres and musical mediums, consistently demonstrates his ability to craft authentic and sometimes deeply personal lyrics. The video of the show is of the highest quality as well, and perhaps it gives a more accurate picture of the band and tracks, since it didn't have the limitations of vinyl or CD, time wise.
The first couple of albums with the "American" sound, then the change in direction with "Making movies" and after that the almost "progressive" attempt with "Love over gold" and the rock 'n' roll intermission with "Dance E. VG+ (Very Good Plus): This record has clearly been played before, but has only a moderate reduction in sound quality, despite a possible slight loss of shine and some surface marks. The opening track, "Once Upon a Time in the West" is preceded by an uncredited version of the "Stargazer" instrumental from the Local Hero soundtrack. Records that aren't in picture sleeves will either be in a company sleeve or a generic plain sleeve. It's a shame they never took the chance when remastering to do a proper job of the fade in to Expresso Love which seems to contain 30 seconds or more of the tail end of 'Industrial Disease' - some other dodgy fades between tracks.
Love over Gold", which had been released as a separate single in 1984, was added into the track list for the CD release, and the fade outs between sides 1 and 2 and sides 3 and 4 have been removed. My copy of this has this sleeve (NO barcode) but the Matrix has VERY11 crossed out on Side 1 and 2 - and 818244-A-3U-1-1- (side 1), 818244-B-2U-1-1 (side 2). Tunnel of Love" is preceded by an otherwise unrecorded instrumental (actually faded in from the extended coda of "Portobello Belle", which was left off the album), already played on the 1981 tour, but here re-arranged to showcase Mel Collins' saxophone.

The crowd noise is minimal and mainly at the beginning and end of each song which actually adds to the enjoyment. Very Good: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Alchemy: Dire Straits Live was remastered and reissued with the rest of the Dire Straits catalogue in 1996 for most of the world outside the United States and was remastered and re-released in the USA on 8 May 2001.
