The social workers (ours and Billie’s) met with us to go through what had been happening and to raise any pressing points or questions they needed to ask. I found myself drawn to it all given that I can relate to the very early stages of Lisa’s desire to want a baby. Hearst UK is the trading name of the National Magazine Company Ltd, 30 Panton Street, Leicester Square, London, SW1Y 4AJ.

She was always chatting, using a language that she had made up, mixed with a few real words and sounds, always pointing to things and asking what they were. A very warm and frank telling of the many years Lisa and her now ex husband and their infertility story. I would get used to these meetings and they would become almost second nature over the coming months, but for now, it was all so new to me and I was terrified to put a foot wrong. Over two years, my then-partner Chris and I went from trying to get pregnant naturally to having our fertility tested (everything looked normal) and going through IVF three times. I had to change her nappy in the middle of it and I felt like all eyes were on me as I picked up the changing bag and we headed to the loos.I cried through a lot of this book, not for sadness of what was not to be but of the grief I felt at the time and wasn’t able to express.

Lisa's first book was published in 2012 and was a Sunday Times bestseller, and she has subsequently written 3 other cookery books. Highly recommend to anyone experiencing fertility problems, baby loss, grief or people who plan to adopt a child.Excellent book for anyone thinking about adoption and asking themselves whether they are right for it. The book really hit home that not all is lost if things don’t go to plan, there are other avenues and that is the most important piece of information I have taken away from this inspiring journey to motherhood. Life can be unexpected; my plan was to be in a happy marriage with a biological child, and look how that turned out. But, in the months and years that followed, she discovered that there was more than one way to build a family - and that there is a lot of joy to be found in life's unexpected detours. Chris and I stood on the other side of that door for about 20 minutes, looking at each other and listening to her gurgling into her bottle and singing to herself, hardly daring to move or make a sound for fear that we might disturb her.

It was emotional and complicated and delicate for every single person involved and we were all just trying to do our best for this wonderful little girl. When the doctor told me this, I had no idea they wouldn’t be able to move the baby to where it was meant to be, that I’d need surgery to have my tube removed. This is not a book for the faint hearted,I can relate to her story as I have been through the pain of conceiving as a parent. However, it was being a birth partner to my sister and knowing the love that I felt the minute I held her children that made me realise birth doesn't define love. Thank you Lisa for being so honest with your experience, this book really helped me and I related to everything she went through with ivf.

A great reminder that our paths may be different to those intended, but we can still get to the destination. The weeks before had been so intense, and we were – and would continue to be – under such watchful eyes. Lisa takes you on an emotional journey of the challenges she and other couples have faced to become a parent. If anyone reading this is struggling to have children please pick up this book it will give you courage and their is help available out their. Thoroughly moving book and a brave and honest account of the epic journey some women face to become a mother. In a raw and inspiring story of one woman's journey through motherhood, family life and self-discovery, Lisa explores the many forms that family can take, and discovers the power of embracing your Plan B.
