Description

Commonwealth Act No. 1, the National Defense Act of 1935, referred to the ROTC as the " Reserve Officers Training Corps", [4] whereas Republic Act No. 7077, the Citizen Armed Forces of the Philippines Reservist Act of 1991, referred to the ROTC as the " Reserve Officers' Training Corps", [5] ascribing the possessive form to the word "officers". The two-year scholarship is available for students who have two academic years of college remaining. Until the 1960s, many major universities required compulsory ROTC for all of their male students. However, because of the protests that culminated in the opposition to U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War, compulsory ROTC was dropped in favor of voluntary programs. [16] In some places ROTC was expelled from campus altogether, although it was always possible to participate in off-campus ROTC. [17] American Archive of Public Broadcasting (November 25, 1978). Typically, cadets receive tuition assistance. However, they also have the option to apply the scholarship to their 'room and board' expenses instead of school tuition.

The Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) is an alternative route to receive military scholarship benefits. The program requires cadets to enlist in a reserve unit (Army Reserve or National Guard) while enrolled in ROTC. ECP cadets are required to enlist in the Army Reserves or the Army National Guard during their two years at a Military Junior College, and will be in the SMP program. SMP cadets are not required to complete Basic Combat Training (BCT) or Advanced Individual Training (AIT), but it is necessary to receive specific benefits. The benefits are as follows: Other national armed forces in countries with strong historical ties to the United States have ROTC programs. Johnson, Leith (August 1, 2017). Republic Act 7077, otherwise known as the "Citizen Armed Forces of the Philippines Reservist Act", was enacted by the 8th Congress of the Philippines on June 27, 1991. The Reservist Act provided for the organization, training, and utilization of reservists, referred to in the Act as "Citizen Soldiers". The primary pool of manpower for the reservist organization is graduates of the ROTC basic and advanced courses. [5] ROTC Games [ edit ] Aravilla, Jose. As an ancillary target, Basic Camp allows second-year (Military Science II or MS II) Cadets to gain squad leader experience providing opportunities for some MS III (rising senior) Cadets to fulfill roles as platoon-level leaders. Basic Camp consists of three Cadet Regiments composed of approximately 1,900 Cadets. The senior commander will update this force health protection measure as guidance and/or conditions change.

The National Defense Act of 1920 ramped up ROTC, and by 1928, units had been established at 225 colleges and universities. They were commissioning 6,000 second lieutenants per year. [13] The United States Army offers ROTC scholarships that assist students with financing their education.
