That’s when he realizes there’s more to things than initially meets the eye, as he discovers a plot set-up by the people he’s now entrusted with. There is almost no investigation into why Hawthorne acts this way, despite Horowitz’s insistence that this will justify writing about a homophobic person. Beyond these basic facts, Horowitz seems to know little else about Hawthorne, making the detective of the story a bit of a mystery himself. The mounting evidence of ever more and ever worse skulduggery will pull Tempe deeper and deeper down what even she sees as a rabbit hole before she confronts a ringleader implicated in “Drugs. I found this book refreshing, incredibly readable and actually, the word I want to use is delightful!

Godwin admits to loathing Diana and asking her for money, as well as sending her a threatening note, but denies harming her cat, who has been missing since before Diana’s death. Cornwallis gives an extended monologue blaming Damian for ruining his life, since he lost the role of Hamlet due to a trick Damian played. This is the 30th book, but considering Alex has survived "Kill Alex Cross" before, chances are he survives this one. When we read fictional novels, we do so to distance ourselves from reality, to entertain ourselves with hypothetical scenarios which happen to people who aren’t real. Can he become what he was always destined to be and fully realize his true potential as a secret-agent for the government? Not knowing where to turn he has to decipher the clues left to him by his uncle and prevent a catastrophe from taking place. While I can’t pretend to know the author or what he is like, there’s a feeling of him trying to explore his own inner world by laying it all out on paper, and ultimately for the reader, this ends up making for quite a few interesting interactions between the two, some amusing, others thought-provoking. For another, the job she turns out to have been hired for—leading an investigation her new boss doesn’t feel he can entrust to his own force—makes her queasy. They learn from other witnesses that Diana was anxious about her lost cat and had recently lost money in a theater production. Heavner isn’t exactly mollified when Tempe, aided by retired police detective Skinny Slidell and a host of experts, puts a name to the dead man.

After “The Magpie Murders,” in which a script for a classic mystery is embedded in the tale of a modern mystery, Horowitz has written a mystery in first person and placed himself in the position of “Sherlock Holmes”’ Watson. It might not be the most original or groundbreaking mystery I’ve ever read, but I would certainly classify highly among its kind. We place a focus on finding the great works which might be overshadowed by their more popular peers.
Another sweltering month in Charlotte, another boatload of mysteries past and present for overworked, overstressed forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan. At first glance Alex Rider is a normal schoolboy who seems to be having a fairly straightforward uneventful upbringing. Having gotten himself fired from his job at the Metropolitan police, Hawthorne decides to approach Anthony Horowitz. Horowitz first achieved fame for his Alex Rider series, which depict the adventures of an adolescent spy. Combining both fantasy and horror, it was to set-up ‘The Power of Five’ series creating an overall arc and tone for the books.
