The minimum focus distance is 12.3" (313mm) which provides a working distance of 4.8" (122mm) from the end of the lens (without the hood in place). The main reason people bought Sigma and Tamron was for price. Today, you're much better off with a used manual-focus Micro-NIKKOR for even less money with far superior quality, but hey, if you prefer these off-brands, don't let me stop you. Just remember to turn your image stabilisation off on your camera or lens when shooting with a tripod, as this can have an adverse effect otherwise. Lateral chromatic aberration is consistently minimal throughout the aperture range - you're unlikely to spot any fringing in real world shooting. Then, of course, there is the time of day and time of year – all of these affect the quality of light and how long it will be available to you.

Full-frame, 1.3x and and APS-C coverage, 72mm metal filter thread, 37.3oz./1,057g lens only, 41.4oz./1,173g with collar, 1:1 1.5'/0.48m close focus. If macro photography is your primary use for this lens, MF is probably what you care about most and the poor AF performance may not be an issue for you. I also have to give a lot of credit to the Laowa 100mm f/2.8. It has a unique optical design that goes to 2× magnification rather than 1×, yet it still manages to be either the sharpest or second-sharpest lens of these six. Bravo to Venus Optics (the company behind Laowa) for however they managed to achieve that. Bokeh and Out-of-Focus Color Fringing For tabletop and product shots, this 100-400 may be the the only macro —and tele —you need. It also replaces 70-200mm lenses! Sigma is well known for producing high quality optics, which deliver sharp images with high contrast, well-controlled ghosting and accurate colour rendition. Exceptional build quality and ease of use are further benefits, which appeal to photographers and videographers who need durable and robust options for their craft. Sigma manufacturers lenses suitable for every photographic genre, most camera brands and for both full-frame and APS-C sensors, with manual focus and autofocus options. This is a crazy lens that starts at a life-sized image at the sensor, and can zoom to up to five-times life size. This means a grain of rice can fill a full-frame! This is both a nifty fifty and an affordable macro lens with 1:1 magnification - which makes it an attractive option for a Sony user, as it is small and light enough to be something you keep in your camera bag. Unlike the other Sony-fit options, this is also a sensible choice for use with APS-C sensor cameras (such as the Sony A6000 series, or the ZV-E1) - and then offers an effective focal length of 75mm. Be warned that this lens is showing its age in terms of its autofocus performance! But where possible, we highly recommend using a tripod – here are some lightweight travel tripod options. Of course, choosing a non-moving subject to begin with is probably wise! As you get more confident, you can try photographing insects and other small animals.

On cameras where lens aberration correction is controlled with ‘ON’ or ‘OFF’ in the camera menu, please set all aberration correction functions to ‘ON'(AUTO).

The Sports line delivers high speed AF in compact telephoto zooms, which are perfect for fast-paced sports, action and wildlife photography. You can even get macro lenses for iPhones or other smartphones, which attach via a clip over the existing camera’s lens.

Full-Frame, 67mm filters, 25.7 oz./730 g, 1.4× maximum macro magnification, 0.85'/10.2"/0.26m close focus. Excellent for general photography, but sadly the only lens here with lateral color fringes at macro magnifications. In its day, this was the exotic dream lens of professional bug and macro photographers, but today for product shots, it doesn't do it for me with its lateral color fringes at close distances. Sigma lenses are popular due to their ease of use, portability and the sharp results which they capture, with a variety of focal widths to choose from. These enable photographers to choose between wide aperture prime lenses for portraits, street and documentary, or versatile zooms which cover ultra wide, standard and telephoto focal widths. Many believe that macro lenses aren’t all that versatile, but that’s really not the case. First off, it’s a great lens for newborn photography, especially when photographing tiny details like the baby’s eyelashes, fingers, or toes. Outside, when shooting macro nature images, natural light can be very effective. But when working with nature, the photographer is always dependent on so many variables beyond their control – mainly the weather. The Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Lens uses a not-nearly-as-nice as HSM or USM 2-step combination of a push/pull clutch and an AF/MF switch to select the desired focus mode - So macro lenses can be extremely important for scientific studies, particularly of nature including images of insects, flowers and butterflies. You can also use this style of photography for artistic means, such as telling close-ups; baby fingers, people’s eyes with reflections, older hands with wrinkled skin.

Keeping your camera steady when taking macro photographs is very important. Since you are so close to the subject your photographing, there is no room for error.Tamron AF 90mm f/2.8 Di – this is an excellent value lens and available for many camera brands such as Nikon, Sony, Canon and Pentax. A very well established lens and the lens choice of many photographers. It’s known for producing sharp images and also has excellent vibration reduction inbuilt. Macro lenses are also great for headshots, with their close focusing capabilities. A macro lens is designed to render detail and colour beautifully, capturing sharp, detailed images. One of the most interesting things to note is how much better the Tokina looks at these distances compared to its close-up performance. There’s less chromatic aberration and more sharpness, to the point where the Tokina went from the worst lens to one of the best. What can also be seen in the above photo are magnification markings on the extended portion of the lens barrel.
