Description

This fantastic story of Greek mythology is a very exciting aventure for all ages and also provides knowledge of one of the most well-known legends of the Ancient Greece: the legend of the Argo vessel and its sailors!

There is considerable grain and noise in the effects sequences, notably when the skeletons rise up from the ground (which begs the question how they got there, but that's another issue entirely). Sadly, like their other catalog titles, Sony continues to skip out on providing a Digital Copy of the film. Jackson has always been a terrific commentator and his enthusiasm and passion for the films of Ray Harryhausen, coupled with that of Cook's, make for absolutely compulsive listening. aspect ratio) encode for this Blu-ray release that naturally has a few issues stemming from the quality of the source material, but in general it looks pretty spiffy.

This won't challenge the top tier of modern releases, and you should not be judging it against them, but a 7. This film clearly has made an impact on many people, and it shows with the two commentary tracks, which include those with director (but obviously not director of this film) Peter Jackson and visual effects artist Randall William Cook, as well as a separate commentary with film historian Tony Dalton and the original F/X master himself, Ray Harryhausen.

Classic story, literally, told with love and reverence, if not entirely faithful to the Argonautica. Previous DVDs of Argonauts have been a little when it comes to extras, but Sony rectifies this flaw with the Blu-ray release. It's almost certain now, after the surprise success of the Clash of the Titans remake, that we'll be seeing a big-budget redo of this classic tale. The documentary includes several interviews, a look at some of his surviving models, rare animation segments, and much more. These all-time classic adventures, each featuring pioneering special effects by filmmaking legend Ray Harryhausen, are presented here in stunning restorations.

He found mythological fantasies more exciting than science fiction monsters, and wanted very much to tell the story of the Golden Fleece in classic terms. In his old "Film Fantasy Scrapbook" Harryhausen mentioned that he was impressed by the fact that the hero Jason's big quest is really a raid for loot; the Argonauts are little more than thieves. Listen now to the much keener and more vivid display from the xylophone during the Harpy capture, for instance.

Herrmann's brass and percussion broadside is delivered to all the channels and with clarity and presence. Containing a wealth of new and archival extras – including audio commentaries with the great Ray Harryhausen himself, a Jason and the Argonauts commentary with Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson, new interviews with SFX maestro Hal Hickel and genre-film expert Kim Newman – this collection is strictly limited to 6,000 units. and effects people Phil Tippet, Ken Ralston, the late Stan Winston, Rick Baker, Dennis Muren, John Dykstra and the Chiodo Brothers all love the Cyclops and revere Harryhausen. This sequence is not only a technical achievement that has, and continues, to inspire throngs of artists and filmmakers all over the world, from Steven Spielberg to Sam Raimi to Peter Jackson, but it's a stunning, climactic set piece – the finale to an enormously entertaining piece of cult cinema. But, aside from this, there are still plenty of shots when edges have been enhanced a touch further.

From Los Angeles and New Zealand, director Peter Jackson and effects supervisor and director Randall William Cook dig deeper into the movie from the point of view of childhood fans that made Harryhausen's work a cornerstone of their own film careers. As an added bonus, Sony has also included the film's original mono mix for purists not wishing to experience the 5. This single-disc BD comes packed in a blue case featuring a glossy redesign of the original artwork.can be found on various Blu-ray editions of "The 3 Worlds of Guillver", "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad", "The Golden Voyage of Sinbad", and "Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger". Sony did such a superb job with JASON that I am sending them a snail mail letter commending the effort. Having seen and loved the Francisi/Bava Hercules movies just a couple of years before, I was primed for something similar, which Jason definitely was not.
