XV89 Crisis Battlesuit - The XV89 Crisis Battlesuit is intended for assaults against heavily-fortified enemy positions and thus is outfitted with heavier Iridium Armour plating for enhanced protection compared to the more standard Crisis Battlesuit variants. XV25; The most common version of the stealthsuit in use by the Tau Empire. The Earth Caste hoped to introduce the XV22 en masse to replace the XV15, however the Kappa Mortis Incident forced them to instead bring the easier-to-produce XV25 into full-scale production. Thanks to their larger frame and augmented muscles, XV25s can replace their Burst Cannon for a Fusion Gun, and may also take an additional Battlesuit Support System. It will be hard to convince such indolent and hedonistic beings of the benefits to be gained from devoting themselves to the Greater Good.Add 2 to the Diplomat Power of this star system’s Core World. XV15; a Mass-Class 1 stealthsuit that adds additional armour plating to the Fire Warrior armour, as well as servos and support for the weapon systems it carries, not unlike Space Marine Terminator ArmourVersatility – Hunter Cadre Kill Teams are one of the most complex teams in the Compendium, with many options for different operatives, the ability to put markerlights on enemy units, and the flexibility to run as either a horde or an elite team. You’ve got options when you run this team and you won’t be able to cover them all with a single 20-operative roster. In addition, they have the Camouflage Field rule, which forces the enemy to subtract one from all hit rolls against them (including in melee combat) and the Infiltrator rule, allowing them to deploy onto the field anywhere that is outside of the enemy deployment zone and more than 12″ from enemy models. But the utility of a Stealth team isn’t found in its offensive output. One of the most interesting points on the XV25 datasheet is the Infiltrate ability. Stealths may setup anywhere on the board that is not within the opponent’s deployment zone and is more than 12 inches from an enemy unit. Almost any unit with this ability, or something similar, is worth a look in 9th edition 40k.Mustering a Boarding PatrolWhen mustering a Boarding Patrol, if your Faction is T’AU EMPIRE, then the following rules apply when adding units to your Boarding Patrol Detachment, and they take priority over the normal rules for mustering a Boarding Patrol. I have found it easier with the stealth suits to plug and fire twice with the stratagem. 48 st5 shots is nothing to sniff at. They can benefit from the suit unit stratagems as well such as ignore cover.

Melee – Tau are famously bad at melee combat. If the enemy does get in close with your Fire Warriors and Pathfinders, they’re gonna die. Your operatives hit on a 5+ and only do 2/3 damage with their fists, so you want to avoid being in melee combat. The good news is your team has plenty of mobility to help avoid melee. This structure does grant Hunter Cadres the option of being either a horde team, an elite team, or a mix of both. Unfortunately, this flexibility doesn’t provide as many interesting tactical choices as you might hope for, particularly if you’re not taking Pathfinders on your team or trying to avoid them. Drones XV17 Battlesuit - Little is known about this battlesuit other than that it exists, is piloted by a single T'au, and is a form of infiltration suit.

Agri World

The inhabitants of this system are heavily militarised, and possessed of a volatile and aggressive temperament.Add 1 to the Military Power of each planet in this star system. Finally, I want to mention a particularly cool stratagem to which Stealths Suits have access: Wall of Mirrors. This stratagem is used in conjunction with a Ghostkeel Battlesuit. A Stealth unit within 6 inches of a Ghostkeel may be removed from the battlefield and setup again no more than 12 inches from the Ghostkeel and more than 9 inches from enemy models. This is, it must be said, a very cool ability. Admittedly, this is a tactic that will only see an opportunity ~10% of the time (stat pulled right out of thin air) and requires a Ghostkeel. Due to the resilience of a Ghostkeel, I’m not convinced that’s necessarily a tax though. Not being aware of this sort of shenanigan could really ruin your day and it breaks the normal deepstrike rules so much I feel it’s worth pointing out. MV36 Guardian Drones are more like general area shield drones. They have a 5+ invulnerable save and come with a unique action – Guardian Field (1 AP) gives friendly operatives within 3″ a 5+ invulnerable save, potentially protecting multiple models at once.

Allows Pathfinders to perform a free Dash Action as long as they’re within 6 inches of a kill zone edge, and they must end that action within 6 inches of a kill zone edge. Anything that provides extra actions or movement is good, but unfortunately it is Pathfinders only, and was migrated to the Pathfinder Kill Team. Once again, if you’re playing with Pathfinders you shouldn’t be using the Hunter Cadre rules. D Tactical Ploys Supporting Fire (1 CP) If only one high-ranking political figure objective marker is on the battlefield, your Crusade force gains D3 Diplomat points.Stealth Suits, though they have a lot of other text written into their unit entry, really come down to two very simple factors- Infiltrate and Fly. The other stuff certainly doesn’t hurt, but those two basic abilities are what really matter at the end of the day, and they tend to define the role that they play in most Tau armies in 8th edition. Even with the beta FAQ limiting first turn arrivals of reserves, there are still lots of ways to bypass this (e.g. Forward Operatives, Upon Wings of Fire, etc) and there are many armies that use such tactics to push forward powerful aggressive elements in the first turn or two of the game, and Tau need a way to deal with these things. XV8-02 Iridium Battlesuit After the death of Commander Pridestar to a sniper's bullet and the subsequent Tau defeat during the Klodate Worlds Suppression, the Earth Caste developed an experimental iridium alloy and produced only enough for a small series of Battlesuits. While it offers Tau Commanders and their Bodyguards optimal protection, it is a luxury that few can afford, though Commander Dawnstar of the Dal'yth Sept is known to call upon them. Hunter Cadre teams have access to drones. You can also replace one operative on a Fire Warrior or Pathfinder fire team with one drone operative, or replace a Stealth battlesuit with two drones, chosen from the list below:
