It can be especially frustrating when you’re on a run and need to mess around with squeezing your fitness tracker. This feature is convenient, and especially helpful in the age of COVID-19, allowing you to reduce your contact with potentially germ-laden point-of-sale systems. The most noticeable difference between the Fitbit Charge 5 and Fitbit Charge 4 is the slimline design. The Fitbit Charge 4 wristbands are the same size as the Fitbit Charge 3 straps, so you can purchase them for both models. Note that you must have a Spotify Premium subscription to use the music streaming service on Fitbit.

Fitbit is aware of this limitation and says it “plans to add more customization to sleep mode” in the near future. The best part of this is the physical button because tap to wake doesn't always work and if you're sweaty and your hands are wet you can't use it, so the button is your only option. The Fitbit Charge 4 activity tracker is undoubtedly one of the ideal devices to adopt a healthier lifestyle. And if I swipe too far, there is no option for me to exit with a button, and I have to swipe all the way back to the beginning to get to the home screen. One change I was pleasantly surprised with on the Charge 5 is the updated design of the silicone strap, as well as a softer material, there is a clever “infinity” closure which is a hole for your strap to be tucked into after you’ve adjusted the size to fit, making it super sleek and snug against your wrist.

You'll then be asked to update the device's firmware; a process that takes a few minutes and requires it to be kept close to your phone. Simply go into exercise mode during a workout, set a goal, and then see real-time process on screen. Working hand-in-hand with your fitness tracking is the built-in 24/7 heart rate monitor, which can track calorie burn and let you know when you're in personalized heart rate zones. Smartwatches might dominate the world of wearables, but a few companies are still championing the fitness tracker form factor. Active Zone Minutes will certainly be a mainstay in the Fitbit ecosystem from now on, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it caught on with other fitness companies in the future.

The Fitbit Charge 4 looks a lot like its predecessor, but comes with notable upgrades under the hood. During a run, the Charge 4 shows your distance and pace on the screen, as well as how long you’ve been going. It’s certainly nice to be rewarded for how hard you exercise rather than just for how many steps you take or how long your workouts last.

However, if that doesn’t appeal, and all you want is for a device to tell you where you’ve been, what your heart rate was and how many steps you’ve taken, then you can get a similar feature set for a lot less money. You can track symptoms, log moods, and compare menstrual cycles with other Fitbit users in the Fitbit app. for a subscription is the same I pay for a streaming service and get so much more, so I’d rather save my money. However, counting the “time in zone” towards a daily or weekly target in the same way as a step count is a new idea and looks to be quite a sensible one.The device also retains all the fitness tracking features from the Charge 3 while adding some new ones as well. The device is water resistant to a depth of 50 meters, making it suitable for swimming, showering and sweating, but Fitbit advises taking a moment to dry the band afterwards.
