Description

The race for the treasure puts the pressure on the players; since each round only lasts 2½ minutes, an entire game is done in less than 10 minutes. We found our kids lining up to take turns, wanting to play again and again. Gnomes are nocturnal creatures that have distinctly Norse origins, which are carried over to our modern version of gnomes today. These shy creatures use the cover of darkness to busy themselves with their own affairs and often those of the humans they live alongside. I would have liked the magnets on the gnomes to be a little stronger, as sometimes it feels like the lightest touch will separate them and cause them to fall into the tray below; resulting in restarting in a corner. But this might be part of the difficulty on purpose! Like humans, Gnomes are social creatures, and they love to be on and about their day – or night. During the day, you wouldn’t see gnomes moving around and attending to their business. However, once the lights are off, they stretch their arms and begin their day. They are also considered great storytellers, and due to their long lifespan, they enjoy sharing their long history with the younger gnomes to preserve their legacy and educate their young. They enjoy a variety of fruits, nuts and vegetables and some folklore suggests that honey mead is also part of their festivities. Gnomes Love to Tinker

Gnomes are protective and make sure that your home is safe from intruders and harm. It’s also said that they mend broken objects they encounter on your property. Gnomes love nature and tending gardens, ensuring fertile soil and bountiful flowers and harvests. Gnomes Protect the Animals and Plant Wildflowers Gnomes are not visible to most humans, except those who can see them or catch them in the act. They are nocturnal, therefore, rarely seen during the day. Each treasure card shows two colors, which are the active players' colors while that card is being played. Only the active players talk and move the gnomes for that round.

The players find all 12 treasures. In each round, players are always looking for the same 12 treasures, 6 on one side of the board and 6 on the other. This is definitely not an issue with Gnomes at Night, and I’ll explain why in a moment. But first let me describe what this game is about and how it plays. Queen Benevolence has had twelve special treasures stolen from her castle. The thief has escaped into the castle’s maze, and he’s dropping the treasures along the way. The queen has called on her friends the gnomes to find and return her extraordinary items - things like a dragon’s tooth, a glass key, and magic moss. I dig the fantasy theme, and the artwork is great for setting the mood. Dune Gnomes – Dune gnomes are found in deserts and drier climates. They move dunes to make way for travelers. To start the next round, shuffle the treasure cards and the corner start cards and place them in a pile face down. Use the same game board again or switch it out for a different board. For the review, I will describe the two-player directions; there’s small variations for three or four players that includes use of the Team Cards. GoalOnce a Gnome Marker touches a treasure, draw a card for the next one. Players continue to cooperatively get the treasures until the Sand Timer runs out or the 12 treasures are found. At the end of the round, total up how many treasures you found and award your team with that many points—12 points are possible for a round, with a total of 36 possible for a three-round game. Then reshuffle the 12 Treasure Cards and the Corner Start Cards and repeat for two more rounds. Each player on that team chooses one color for the entire game. This color indicates when it is that player's turn based on the team colors shown on the treasure card.
