Description

Modelled on the hole-in-the-wall eateries of Tehran, Berenjak has a ravishing range of kababs, khoresht, and more Persian dishes available. If you can snag a seat in the Hayat, you’ll find a cosy, comfy space hidden behind a curtain, which really is the perfect hideaway to try everything on the menu. They’ve also got a late-night bottomless kebab menu – need I say more? Learn more here. From City Hall to the Tate Modern, and from St. Pauls to Trafalgar square with stops at pretty much every other major landmark you can name, this one is ideal for tourists and London enthusiasts alike. It’s all a bit strange. The temple was dedicated to the god Mithras, only worshipped by a devout (some say a bit cray cray) cult of male followers who’d sacrifice live bulls in his honour. Short but sweet, this Alexandra Palace walk is one to do when you want maximum views with minimum effort. There’s even an unusual turn from an 18th-century manor turned luxury hotel in the shape of Cannizaro House – historically frequented by Alfred Lord Tennyson, Oscar Wilde and the Last Maharajah of the Punjab.

There’s street art all over London, but for a guaranteed selection of high-end art, head to Shoreditch, which is filled with both permanent installations and informal creations. Chance Street is one of the best spots for murals. If there was ever a garden to inspire you to become a budding (get it?) flower enthusiast, it’s the Isabella Plantation.

Discover The Best Of London

That means you can go and enjoy the delicious street food and *cough cough* boozy drinks in the golden main hall in a relatively crowd-free setting – or at least without the hoards that you’d expect elsewhere. The result is exceptionally beautiful and interesting. It’s a real favourite with local workers as a lunch spot, but visit outside of the peak hours and St Dunstan’s is an oasis of quiet. Established by the Museum of London in the 1980s, the walk starts at the Tower of London and finishes at the Museum of London, ferreting into the London of times past as you follow in its steps.

TfL have designated it as one of the Mayor’s Strategic Walks in London and have maps and information on each of the walk’s six sections (linked below). You may have been to Hatton Gardens – London’s diamond district – but have you ever heard of The Silver Vaults? With the exception of Nunhead Cemetery, so far I’ve steered away from the city’s more macabre spots, but Cross Bones Burial Ground is one of the secret places in London that truly fascinates us. It’s a combination of beautiful, flower-filled “pleasure gardens” as well as “kitchen gardens” where herbs and spices would have been grown. You’ll be rewarded with pretty views as you pass Westminster Abbey and wander through St James’ Park – the perfect spot for a mid-walk picnic. Either way, expect to see eclectic architecture, famous bridges and even some quieter more rural sections on the outer fringes of the city.
