Lucy Ellinson in Grounded at the Traverse in 2013, the first year the play was performed. Photograph: Murdo Macleod/The Guardian I also have a special love for the cold north: give me half a chance and I will return to the Scottish Highlands or the arctic north of Finland. That said, I can easily pass several weeks running around the many lovely islands of the Atlantic. Showcases important concepts like theory building, helping you to reflect on the wider context of your research and the contribution it makes to existing literature My hope is that in this frenzy of the modern world, people will find in Grounded spaces of quiet reflection that can help them learn to slow down,” Dr Canton added. The pilot was always Ellinson’s part. “I read it and immediately thought of her,” says Haydon. The two of them had worked together before – she lay bedbound in his Trojan Women, and appeared in Niklas Rådström’s clinical dissection of the James Bulger case, Monsters . Ellinson had just been touring #Torycore, a piece in which George Osborne’s speeches are performed to noise metal, and that made Haydon’s mind up. “I’d never seen that level of ferocity in her before.” ‘She makes no apologies whatsoever’

The reason I'd avoided it thus far is because of bugs, and by that, I mean actual critter bugs, not gameplay ones. My arachnophobia is epically bad, which means that even though I'd pushed the wonderful spider-safe mode slider the full distance, the gloopy legless blobs that scuttle around Oak Hill still bring me out in a cold sweat. In 2008 I completed my PhD in Himalayan Geology with fieldwork seasons in India and Bangladesh. I have spent my adult life travelling the mountains of the world by foot. Highlights include, the South American Andes, The Romanian Carpathian, The Slovakian High Tatra, the Moroccan High Atlas, the Western Alps of France, Switzerland and Austria, and the Japan Alps. Even though people spend an inordinate amount of time looking at our phones or other forms of screens at the moment, one of the things that we have learnt in the past few years is just how much we as a species are dependent on nature. In one form or other, it feeds, clothes and shelters us. Everything is utterly interlinked too, so as we change one thing, we inadvertently affect numerous other things. Rehearsing a solo show is its own particular skill, Haydon says. A director’s job, usually, is to create a neutral space for actors where their processes can meet. “With a monologue, it’s completely different,” he says. “You’ve got to create a space where the performer can lead the process.” Grounded: A Journey into the Landscapes of Ancestors explores the history of communities and their relationships with the landscape around them. It features Warham in Norfolk, Linsey in Suffolk and Alphamstone in Essex in its journey around the UK and beyond.

She also works privately with clients of all ages, helping people understand and heal from the impact that trauma has on brains and bodies. Interactive activities and critical thinking questions in every chapter so you can put your knowledge into practice Its extensive examples and case studies are drawn from across the social sciences, presenting students with a range of options for both applying and using grounded theory. Clear and easy to follow, this second edition: The other thing that the natural world can do though, is to heal us. Time spent near rivers and trees has all sorts of benefits for our mental and physical health. This is not just speculation, but scientific evidence has demonstrated this in many different studies. While it's still a far cry from the kind of deep, role-playing simulation typically seen from an Obsidian title (NPCs remain frustratingly few and far between), the Grounded campaign finally feels like a story that lives up to the studio's reputation, in spite of the compromises made in sustaining the game's foundations as a survival-crafting experience.

Ed is a lighting designer for live performance, including theatre, dance, opera, fashion shows and festivals. Having previously been an assistant to leading lighting designers at Glyndebourne Opera Festival, English Touring Theatre and Manchester Royal Exchange, in 2022, Ed was appointed ‘Lumiere’ by the UK Association of Lighting and Production Design. The desire to explore trumps every instinct to follow simple instructions, and whilst you'll soon learn that you can drop a lean-to pretty much anywhere to sleep out the night, remembering things like feeding and hydrating yourself can become mild annoyances. Dropping the difficulty can help with this; in fact, Grounded offers an array of accessibility and preference settings, enabling you to disarm friendly fire if you're co-oping, neutralise hostile bugs, or make yourself invulnerable, albeit they weren't changeable at the time of writing. But once you find your groove and build yourself a little home… well, the world's your teeny, tiny oyster. Over the summer, Ed returned to Glastonbury for a second year to light the San Remo stage, before heading to Opera Holland Park to collaborate on a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He lit A&E, a new opera from duo Muelas+Ward, which played at London’s Arcola Theatre for their summer festival. The character description is instructive. It’s startlingly precise, specifying her 1.5 mile run-time (13 minutes, 56 seconds or less) and the number of press-ups (50) and push-ups (27) she should complete in a minute. Brant remembers the actor who played the pilot, Lucy Ellinson, apologising. She could only do so many press ups.

The student-focused guide to grounded theory, this book takes you step by step through the whole research process, from creating a research proposal to sharing your findings. Her understanding of how to bring out the best in children is the fruit of over 25 years as an experienced primary school teacher, sought after accredited play therapist, clinical supervisor and therapeutic advisor to schools. For all of its creativity, however, Grounded doesn't do much to avoid the familiar trappings of its genre either, occasionally falling into the humdrum of the survival-crafting grind as you invest hours into gathering up heaps of resources to build your shelter or simply keep your hunger and thirst at bay. These gameplay loops are popular for a reason, of course, and some of you will happily cycle through them for all their merit. For those who aren't as taken by such genre staples, it's worth emphasising that Grounded merely builds upon, rather than subverts or transcends, the prosaic rhythms of the survival-crafting template.

Grounded has been described as “intensely alive to the landscape” by Robert Macfarlane, author of Underland and The Lost Words, and “a vivid exploration…brimming with warmth and gentleness” by Keggie Carew, author of Dadland and Beastly.I specialise in outdoor practice, nature connection and working with mind and body in harmony. I’m interested in how we do relationships with others, nature and ourselves, how we make meaning of our lives, the stories we tell, how we live in our bodies, and post-traumatic growth. Offers practical advice for how to dogrounded theory research, alleviating common student concerns every step of the way

It can be grindy sometimes, though. Like any survival game, some of your time will be taken up by scavenging for ingredients, and some are easier to come by than others (thank the lord for the sap catcher, as I struggle to see the stuff out in the wild), but there's no race here. No time limits. The main draw of the 1.0 version will be the inclusion of the (fascinating) story elements, something players have been calling for, and whilst this new feature has been woven skillfully around its the sandbox elements, Grounded is one of those wonderful playgrounds that thrives even without a story mode; we know, because thousands of people have already invested thousands of hours doing so. In a 2015 production of Grounded at the Park theatre, north London, the role of the Pilot was shared by BSL signer Nadia Nadarajah and Charmaine Wombwell. Photograph: Tristram Kenton/The Guardian Grounded's charming, Honey I Shrunk the Kids premise is elevated by its uniquely welcoming approach to wonder. The most promising feature of Grounded is that there's always room to grow, then, but even if Obsidian decided to call it quits now, it could do so proud of what it has accomplished here. This small game with a big heart is ultimately a successful experiment, and while the tension between its two identities of role-playing and survival-crafting results in some noticeable tension points, the marriage between the two remains a happy union overall. More games should have one, actually, for any in-game critters that trigger common phobias, such as rats, snakes, and so on. My problem, I think, is that the way the blobs move is too reminiscent of spiders. That, and the fact they hiss if you stray too close; it's a dreadful sound, almost as bad as the big boys in Animal Crossing: New Horizons… and that's saying something.
