Description

After you’ve created a grid-like pattern in half of your mango as shown in the photo above, take a spoon and scoop out the equal-sized cubes, leaving the skin behind. Start with ripe but firm mangoes. If the mango is too ripe, it will be hard to get a good grip on and be super messy to cut. For a raw mango, it is best to slice it and scoop the pulp with a spoon. Stand the mango upright on a cutting board with the stem/pit side down. Since that part is wider, it will help stabilize the mango. If needed, trim off the hard pit end to balance it. This classic, Swiss-design peeler offers a serrated swivel peeler that is adept at catching onto tough-to-penetrate skins (fuzzy, hard, or smooth), like tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and peaches. The serrated blade is also great for trimming tougher foods, like fresh asparagus and squash.Because it's serrated, it leaves behind very fine ridges on the item that you’re peeling, which provides extra grip on your food to prevent slipping. The imprint is so small, though, that you may not even notice.

Yes, the mango skin is edible and highly nutritious. However, just like poison ivy and poison oak, mango skin contains urushiol, which is allergenic. So you shouldn’t eat mango skin if you’re allergic to urushiol. Should you peel a mango before cutting? Be careful not to cut through the mango skin when shaping into slices or dices. This makes it more difficult to scoop the fruit from the skin.If you’re wanting an automatic peeler, but you don’t own a stand mixer, you can opt for this freestanding electric peeler. It claims to work on most produce, such as potatoes, apples, citrus, and stone fruits. Although the position of the peeler can be adjusted to accommodate fruit and veggies of all sizes, it struggles with thinner items like parsnips and carrots and heavier items like butternut squash.

Our goal is to cut around this seed/pit and separate the flesh. In this post, I show you how to cut up a mango so you can get the most fruit out of it, with minimum wastage. In the freezer: spread out your cut up mango on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and place it in the freezer for a few hours until frozen solid. This is called a flash freeze and will prevent the chunks of mango from freezing together. After the pieces are frozen, add them to freezer-friendly, airtight containers and store them in the freezer. Try frozen mango in smoothies, as fruity ice cubes or just as a cool summer treat! There are three common types of blade materials: stainless steel, ceramic, and carbon steel. Stainless steel blades are by far the most popular because it is the one material that you can sharpen like you would with knives. Ceramic blades are similar in sharpness to stainless steel, but when it comes to toughness and durability, they can be more prone to breaking or dulling. Lastly, carbon steel blades are susceptible to rust if not taken care of properly. This means you will have to wipe down after each use, so the blade isn’t wet.

Fresno Chile– Similar in heat to a jalapeño with a fruity, somewhat smoky taste. Jalapeño and serrano peppers are great substitutes, and you could use banana peppers if you are sensitive to spice.
