Description

She believes in the ability of craft to bring people together, instil confidence and relieve stress. In a voluntary capacity, Jeba has provided essential support services, including advice, guidance, and interpretation. You should consider getting your car repaired now before you're left stranded on the side of the road—a stitch in time saves nine.

BBC Four - A Stitch in Time

The craftsmanship involved in every costume, and how a costume looks and feels, enables our actors to transform into the characters you see on stage. The original use of ‘ stitch in time’involves the prompt sewing of small holes or tears in a garment, saving the need to do more stitching at a later date. Over the years, Jeba had the privilege of collaborating with a diverse range of individuals, both professionally and through her volunteer work, including coordinating projects aimed at raising awareness about crucial health and mental health issues within marginalised communities, such as a tenure as a project coordinator at Social Action for Health. The work of SIT has captured her interest, as it empowers disadvantaged women by nurturing their creativity and imparting essential life skills. Stitches in Time began as an experiment to see if sewing could start conversations between strangers. The modern meaning of this idiomatic expression has nothing o do with stitches, clothing, or wounds. Stitches in Time is a participatory arts and education charity with a social enterprise arm based in Tower Hamlets. Stalwart stooges Edward Chapman (Mr Grimsdale, of course) and Jerry Desmonde prove once more that straight men can often be much funnier than the comics".

Perhaps more than any other borough in London, Tower Hamlets best represents the capital with its untrammeled riches and stark poverty. Check out our fun and interactive social media groups to make new friends and just hang out with other embroiderers! Our social enterprise brings together the growing market for ethical and sustainable fashion with local demands for user orientated work and training opportunities and peer-led instruction. Jeba was born and raised in Tower Hamlets, and her lifelong commitment to this community has driven her involvement in various volunteering and community development initiatives, particularly focusing on BAME communities in East London.
