While the sonic and dynamic benefits of acrylic guitars are debatable, one thing that they do possess is an interesting aesthetical design. There is an argument that these see-through guitars can be a fun alternative to use from time to time, and I would agree with that. There’s no harm in experimenting with any type of instrument, as you may come up with a sound that you enjoy, and that’s always a good thing! Several customers have commented on how colorful and vibrant the material is and how it brings a new life to their guitars. Later, Valco in Chicago introduced a line of electrics, in 1962, with molded fiberglass bodies, including the stylish National "map shape" models. That same year, Ampeg made a fiberglass-body electric upright bass, the Baby Bass.

Acrylic guitars have several names that they are also often called, including “clear guitars”, “lucite guitars”, or “plexiglass guitars”. Whichever name you choose to use, the key thing to know is that these instruments use plastic for the bodies rather than wood. Cut your material. This may be done with different tools. The most common is jigsaws and bandsaws. Take your time. It can be challenging to get the corners right. One of the benefits of using guitar PNG files is that they come in a variety of styles and formats. You can find images of acoustic guitars, electric guitars, bass guitars, and more. Some guitar PNG files are simple line drawings, while others are high-resolution photographs. You can also find guitar PNG files that have been stylized or edited to create unique effects.Easily one of the most referenced Klon inspired drives, the Wampler Tumnus is always recommended for those seeking the Centaur tone, and this Deluxe version features expanded EQ shaping capabilities. There are more choice than ever, so scan the selection and enjoy shopping for the right material. A Price That’s Easy On The Wallet Double sided tape can be handy when attaching your template to the sheet material so that it doesn’t move while you’re tracing it. If you want a solid foundation of transparent overdrive, but with options for higher-gain settings, both the JHS Morning Glory and Wampler Euphoria function as multiple pedals in one. The Pettyjohn Chime was made to "sweeten your signal with the touch sensitivity of vintage English amps on the edge of break up."

Maybe if you chose to invest in a more expensive material like diamond or gold – then you might fuss a little more over budget (note: diamond and gold sheets are not featured on this list). Playing comfort is another aspect of the electric guitar that one could argue is subjective. However, it is undeniable that acrylic body guitars are very hard and can dig into your body when playing them. Less transparent than some of the others on this list, the OCD still leaves a lot of your amp's flavor when in Low Peak mode and many guitarists dial the gain down and use it as a boost. There are some guitars that exist where the day after you buy them, you know you've made a mistake. I'm going to list 5 of them below. In reality, there are minimal positive impacts on tone, dynamics, or any other aspect of the electric guitar that is achieved by having a plastic body rather than a wood one – other than perhaps producing niche, experimental tones. Compromised Playing ComfortNew to v4 of the Morning Glory are toggle switches for high-gain and bright-cut, both of which are foot switchable with the addition of JHS’s separate Red Remote unit. Thanks to the latest update, the Morning Glory almost approaches 2-in-1, dual pedal territory. For a transparent tone enhancer and overdrive unit, it doesn’t get much better than this.

This low to medium gain pedal from Emerson utilizes premium components and works well as a boost to mid gain drive. Overall, choosing an electric guitar with a tonewood body will get you the best results in terms of playability and sound. If you want to experiment with a new style of guitar, you can have a lot of fun with an acrylic mode l. Can Lucite Be Used for Guitars? When you choose a guitar, it’s advisable to consider three key aspects – the sound it produces, the way it feels, and its physical appearance. You can set your transparent drive at Low Peak, which is more of a Fender-esque clean boost, or High Peak, a more drive-oriented Vox or Marshall sound. Also, version 2 of the OCD features a switch allowing you to choose from True Bypass, a standard for most boutique pedals today, or Fulltone’s proprietary Enhanced Bypass, which keeps a natural warmth going through your signal chain even when the pedal is switched off. Plastics, like acrylic and lucite, aren’t particularly nice to touch. They feel less natural than wood, and this can be offputting when playing the guitar. Transparent Guitars vs. Wood-based GuitarsPaul Cochrane's Timmy is eternally praised by transparent tone chasers. The top end sounds amazing, and this pedal is much sought after for a reason. MXR recently partnered with Paul to release a more accessible version.

Acrylic guitars arguably fall short of the standard set by wood-bodied electric guitars in these first two categories, but their unique aesthetical design may be appealing to guitarists who like to be noticed. Summary One of the main reasons that many guitarists avoid see-through guitars is due to their considerable weight. These guitars are pretty heavy compared to wooden-bodied models, and this could cause problems when using them. If you asked most guitarists whether they’d heard of acrylic-bodied guitars, you’d probably receive a look of confusion. These instruments have somewhat of an underground following amongst musicians. Acrylic guitars often sound best when they’re used with a small amount of gain so that the thin clean tone is given a boost in power. It is a common misconception that lucite and acrylic are two different materials, when in fact lucite is simply a variation of acrylic. It is renowned for its strength, stiffness, and visual clarity. Aesthetics and Novelty GuitarsSome would argue that see-through guitars are not worth buying. Ultimately, whether or not you agree will depend on your preferences and experiences playing these custom-designed instruments. The clarity of the material allows you to see all of the inner workings of the electric guitar which are usually not visible with a wood-bodied model, and its transparency causes it to react with lights in interesting ways.
