The game features several neighborhoods spread over three islands, including a modern office district, Chinatown and a run-down harbor. Reeves again shares, “The Nolan films established the Batmobile as a tank, which was a brilliant idea… But I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if this guy is a loner and a gearhead and fashioning these things by himself, taking parts of other cars and kit cars? So it’s recognizable as a car this time. But it’s like a muscle car. One that he’s made himself.” Schumacher’s production designer, Barbara Ling, drew inspiration from 1930s Manhattan and the Neo-Tokyo of the 1988 anime Akira. Gotham scenes in Nolan's trilogy were filmed across several different locations including Chicago, Pittsburgh and LA. The new trilogy moved the look and feel of the city even further away from the comic book roots and planted it firmly in the real world. Over the years, Batman has taken many shapes. He’s starred in comics, leapt onto the silver screen, taken on camp, drama, and even appeared in musicals. But despite his ever-changing form, three iconic Batmanfixtures have emerged over time: Batman’s Batsuit, Batmobile, and Batcave. And so, when a new Batman emerges from the darkness, as Robert Pattinson’s has in 2022, the first questions we have to ask revolve around these three Batobjects. Warner Bros. In a conversation with Esquire ,Reeves adds to this notion as he discusses Batman’s (rather emo) eyeliner. He offers, “You can’t wear a cowl and not wear that. All of the Batmen wear that…I just loved the idea of taking off [the mask], and under that, there’s the sweating and the dripping and the whole theatricality of becoming this character.” Of course the “riddling” aspect of The Riddler was retained in The Batman, giving Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne a dark mystery to solve. That mystery indeed unfolded in creepy fashion as The Riddler went around Gotham murdering the powerful in ways intended to send messages to Batman. Undoubtedly the creepiest of The Riddler’s kills saw him murdering commissioner Pete Savage by affixing a trap to his head that forced rats to burrow their way into the victim’s face and eat him alive. This particular killing method in fact seemed to have more in common with Saw villain Jigsaw than The Riddler’s primary inspiration, the Zodiac. We were playing with Gotham as having this prewar boom time, looking at a lot of architecture from movie palaces where we could play with ornaments and shapes in different ways. It created this idea that the city has fallen on hard times and had various booms and busts along the way, with a lot of unfinished skyscrapers and partially complete construction projects. Whereas other Batman iterations have been fully outfitted with the sleekest of Batsuits and the most evolved gadgets, The Batman’sBatsuit reflects that we are meeting a different kind of Bruce Wayne. Though 2022’s The Batmanis not an origin story, Bruce is still early into his crime-fighting career. As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.” The most striking of the above alternate trap designs may be the one that features a whole set-up of tubes, allowing the rats to get some exercise after feasting on the victim’s face. Other designs are more simple and straight-forward, including one that’s literally just a square wire box strapped to the victim’s body with a couple rats crawling around inside. Another design employs a clear pane of glass so The Riddler can scrawl his catchphrase “No More Lies” on it.

Alongside this wealth of information, we’ve now been given a closer look at 2022’s Batsuit, alongside some insights into its creation from The Art of The Batman. THE BATMAN - PART II: There Are Whispers That Hush Might Be Introduced As Sequel's Main Villain

Elsewhere, we get some awesome shots of Gotham, the new Batsuit, and even the Grapnel Gun that proves to be a vital part of the Caped Crusader's arsenal. The gadgets that Batman utilizes are problematic at best. Reeves Dark Knight utilizes a grappling gun that ejects from his wrist guards. Based on this design that means the rope spools from somewhere in his costume which seems unfeasible given that the cord which would measure 50 to 100 feet or more would have to unspool at a hyper speed seering whatever it is touching which in this case would be Pattinson’s arm. Adam also loves DC and Marvel superheroes, thanks to TV shows like Batman: The Animated Seriesand Spider-Man: The Animated Series in the 1990s. In addition to animated superheroes, he is a big fan of Tim Burton’s Batman, Smallville, the Arrowverse, and the Marvel movies.
