Description

A lot of her personal work is inspired by London’s architecture and the relationship between Nature and urbanisation. At times the book made me angry and frustrated, and I was ready to pull out the highlighter and mark up botanical inaccuracies in it later (since I listened to the audiobook in the car I couldn't do it in the moment).

Lucille Clerc's astonishingly beautiful, vibrantly coloured illustrations are an absolute delight, summing up the key points about each plant perfectly - you will find humour in these too. With the perfect combination of history, biology and geography; I now feel totally at ease spewing brand new facts about plants I seen all my live but never thought to understand. With a colorful cast of characters all brought to life by illustrator Lucille Clerc, this is a botanical journey of beauty and brilliance.

She graduated with a DSAA in Visual Communication from Olivier de Serres in Paris, and set up her studio after graduating from Central Saint Martins in London with an MA in Communication Design. I had to pick up some other books in between reading this one just because it is so purely informational, but I would definitely recommend it to anybody wanting to dip their toes into learning a little bit more about plants. I wonder what criteria Drori considered when picking his 80 plants to cover because he certainly covered the world and every continent - including the ocean!

and I have become more conscious than ever of the power of stories that intertwine science with history and culture. If you read extensively on many subjects, then here's another fascinating book to add to your collection - you'll love this one. With its fascinating blend of the cultural, historic and scientific, Jonathan Drori's AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 TREES led readers on a global tour telling the stories of people and plants. Jonathan Drori, ambassadeur van het WWF, neemt zijn lezers mee op een boeiende botanische wereldreis.
