Unlike smartphones, the OM System TG-7 is designed to take a licking and keep on ticking, whether on land or underwater. I say this because while it’s true you don’t need to use the full potential of the lens’ magnification, you do pay extra for the privilege over, say, a macro lens with 1x magnification. Fujifilm’s latest medium format flagship brings updated autofocus and faster shooting, but how does it compete with high-end full-frame models?

The lens comes with a snap-back focus clutch that instantly lets you fine-tune the focus manually and check your magnification ratio. This lens is sooo versatile, with more than Super Macro to telephoto (180mm 35mm equivalent or 252mm with the MC14 teleconverter, or 360mm with the MC20 teleconverter)” so many subjects to use it on. is still not exactly impressive on an MFT camera, when I can get a smaller effective f/number at 1:1 on APS-C, and perhaps f/5. Olympus Corporation still exists but its imaging division was sold off a few years back to the newly minted OM Digital Solutions, who seemingly got right to work (or rather, continued working) on new Micro Four Thirds products. He has enjoyed more than 15 years in the photo video industry with most of those in the world of tech journalism. Even Lenstip overlooked that, altough they presented the f-stop chart from Oly on their summery page.

Sharpness was sometimes an issue at extreme magnifications, but not due to the sharpness of the lens – instead, it was due to the depth of field. I was able to use these features to capture images that would have been impossible with almost anything else on the market. The butterflies were a single image, while many of the frogs and flowers were focus stacked (>99% in-camera). Fujifilm's newest camera aims to bring modern AF, improved sensor stabilization and video recording technology into the medium format realm. If you have a big sensor you need to stop down the lens to get more DOF and then you get diffraction and you are back on square 1 and now with a much bigger equipment. Both sheets of paper (the sensors) now have the same number of pixels despite one being bigger than the other. Unfortunately, so far I only have Panasonic's teleconverters which, even more unfortunately, don't fit on Olympus lenses. Rated IP53 against dust and moisture, the OM Digital 90mm macro should also be supremely well protected from the elements, potentially making it a fantastic option for close-up photographers working in the field.

True, I am looking forward to being able to capture dragonflies with this lens, but the cold outside temperatures did not thwart me from falling in love with this awesome 90mm Macro lens. I had trouble sleeping when I first got the lens, it was just too tempting to use it and explore the possibilities with this lens. When thinking about using this new lens a few things come to mind regarding the focal length and the working distance. In fact, I never remember seeing any LensTip test with a 2x converter, or a test elsewhere with a 2x converter. e., shallow depth-of-field to isolate the subject from the background (along with HS-sync on diffused flash). Heck, I’m partial to telephoto landscape photography, too, so I could see myself using this lens a lot if it lived with me. As a heavy user of the Oly 60 mm macro lens, the additional magnification is very welcomed as I shoot mainly insects. What I see with this lens is that a Canon 90D with the 1-5x MP-e and MT26 twin flash weighs 2,000 g, while an OM-D EM 1 Mii plus this lens, plus the MC20 teleconverter plus a flashpoint/godox flash that can be nicely diffused and doesn't bump into spider webs as much weighs 1369 g, and you get AF and focus bracketing and stacking if you want.

I guess cropping into the Canon to match the FL mostly results in the same resolution across both bodies (19-20MP), diffraction and other factors probably more impactful there. Bottom line, you can pick up this lens and start using it for nature, wildlife and even portraits right away. Put simply, the camera and lens pairing has made light work of tricky macro photography subjects and is the most versatile system for field macro work where simplicity is often key, both photography and video. Many of the glowing things said in this lens review are in the context of it being paired with the OM-1 camera. You get a generous manual focus ring that pops down to reveal a manual focus clutch with focus distances and magnification marked out. We will have our lenses in March when the flowers start popping up and the insects come out, so it is perfect timing. macro lens equivalent built for M43, to get really intimate macro shots, but with better sharpness and ease of use than from an adapted manual lens. This is largely due to the additional 2:1 magnification that causes the AF system to hunt a bit more extensively.
