And does the fact that I've never recieved an ARC before (sob) stop me from promising to do anything and everything to get my hands on this book before April?

Empire of Gold (TV Series 2013) - IMDb

by Lacy Baugher 3 years ago With The Empire of Gold, S.A. Chakraborty wraps up her Daevabad trilogy in a thrilling, bittersweet finale that’s full of both triumph and heartbreak. The world building improved tremendously same goes for the writing, just like the previous books this is also written from the perspectives of three characters namely Nahri, Aliazyd and Dara. Dara's POV was depressing at first but it later improved.

Goodreads Summary:

Ghassan shows up where Nahri and Kaveh are imprisoned. He says he has sent Jamshid away, and he always knew that he was a Nahid. Kaveh and Ghassan argue about Manizheh, someone they really should have been over by now, while Nahri catches up with what’s been going on. A gorgeous conclusion to a beautiful series. I loved these books through and through. I feel like Chakraborty has punched through my ribs and wrung out my heart like a wet rag.

The Empire of Gold - Goodreads

To be fair, the stark tonal shifts between the Dara chapters, with their despair and torture, to the more adventurous feel of the Ali/Nahri stuff does take a bit of getting used to. Forewarned is forearmed and all.Update 22/7/20. Removing half a star. With a bit of time to reflect, I definitely preferred the second book and can't justify giving this one the same rating At the beginning of EoG, I had zero idea how it would end up for Dara, Nahri or Ali. Nor was I sure who Nahri would choose (romantically) at the end. And personally, I wasn't going to mind whether Nahri chose Dara or Ali, because Chakraborty is a talented writer who made me feel for both men to the point where I didn't mind one over the other. The final chapter in the Daevabad Trilogy, in which a con-woman and an idealistic djinn prince join forces to save a magical kingdom from a devastating civil war. Jang Tae-joo comes from nothing, and his ambition is fuelled after witnessing the misfortunes of his poor hardworking father. After their father dies, Tae-joo, along with his mother, raises his little sister Hee-joo on his own, and fights tooth and nail to rise to the top relying on his cunning wits. Smart, passionate, and driven, he endures contempt and humiliation as he works relentlessly towards his dreams of success and wealth. But betrayal and exploitation gradually turn him into a cold-hearted, ruthless mogule. He marries Seo-yoon, although he loves Seol-hee. There wasn’t a single chapter that didn’t pull me in heart and soul! I ended this book with my heart full and my mind filled with thoughts of these characters.
