I used to just play a 46* PW and my next club was a 56* SW, which left me with the awkward decision to chip a PW or hammer a SW pretty often. Yep. My PW is 46, so 50,54,58 provides a nice even spacing. I hit way more wedge shots in a round than long irons, so I dropped the 3 iron. The sets' 45* pitching wedge (125 yards)and also the sets 49* gap wedge (112-115 yards) with "hot face" are considered short full swing irons. Having both a regular 50 and a Spin-Milled 54 gives me lots of options around the greens for chipping too. Currently playing a 52/58 combo, but considering changing to a 50,54,58 to make a *4 gap between my PW and the rest of the wedges. Is this overkill or are people seeing a benefit?

50, 54, and 58 or 52, 56, and 60 or 50 - Vokey Design Wedges 50, 54, and 58 or 52, 56, and 60 or 50 - Vokey Design Wedges

I have been playing 46 PW with 50, 54, 58 for several years now. I thought it was smart, due to the consistent 4* gap. What I had not thought of is that the normal 4* gap between clubs also includes a 1/4" shaft difference. My 50, 54 & 58 are the same length so the yardage gap is actually less than the yardage gap of 4* + 1/4" that exists in the other irons. PXG 0311 Sugar Daddy II Milled Wedges, Xtreme Dark, 54*/10, 56*/10, 58*/10, 62*/10; // LAGP L Series, S The P+2 guys usually are the ones that go mostly "feel", and have an approach 52/54 for stuff from 50-100, and a trusty 60 they really like for anything 15-50. I generally play shorter course, 5800-6200 courses. This leaves me with a lot more shorter approaches to green. The regular flex stepped steel shafts are known for their durability and consistency, which can help you maintain a more consistent swing and shot pattern. If you were to take a full swing with your 60 degree wedge, your distance should be somewhere around 100 yards. Most golfers swing at half or three quarter speed, that’s why the average number is 75 yards. I have very versatile gap and sand wedges as well. The main thing is being able to play all the shots round the green I want first and foremost.

Also its about how you use the wedges that would determine your loft setup. I dont think every player prefers to hit full shots with every wedge, so the symmetrical loft gapping seems to make little sense to me. (ie. 50-54-58 vs. 50-56-60) Lofts and its effect on shot making are so personal, that there really isnt a general rule for these things. Vokey 54.10, 2009 58.12 M, Testing TM MG2 60* TW grind and MG3 56* TW grind. Or Ping Glide Stealth, 54,58 SS. Ping’s Tour Wedge features Gorge Groove Technology. This starts with a precise milling process in the industry where Ping mill the Gorge groove so it can hold very tight tolerances to ensure maximum spin. By managing the process, Ping achieve the optimal size and shape of grooves for generating consistent, reliable spin and trajectories for confident shot making. SS (Standard Sole) offers medium bounce and performs great from most turf conditions and for most swing styles.I am currently using 48-54-60 but still have a place to add one or two clubs. I hit my 60* about 60 meter, 54* about 80 meter, and 48* about 110 meter. I usually use 48* for full swing. 54* mainly for chip and pitch. 60* mostly for green side bunker and flop. Here's what I have been playing for the last two years... Really like the progression and versatility of it. I'm painting with a wide brush here, but these are the most consistent two stories I hear. I've been down both roads. I've found for me that I'm a tempo kind of guy, probably because I was a drummer as a kid. "Feel" isn't mentally as flexible. Sure, I have feel, but not to the extent that I like. So normally, I have my numbers, I shoot my laser, I know about where I'm going to land it. It helps me to have a more narrow starting range, and the price was only a 3-wood I didn't hit well anyhow. I now have a good fairway option, and more yardage options from within 150 yards. I even went so far as to narrow my gaps to about 11 yards from my 6 iron down because statistically, most golf is three shots - driver, 150m or less approach, and putting. I am a decent driver, an ok putter, and my improving handicap is directly attributable to getting better options inside 165 yards. FWIW, the fitting pointed me to the T100S. Given the lofts, my choices are 48*/52*/56* or 50*/54*/58*. I wonder if I’d really miss that 60* If you're a more advanced player who wants many options and the top of your bag is covered, you can use a set up with either a 58 or 60 degree but by this stage of your golfing career, you should understand exactly what you want your wedge to do:
