Personally would I have liked to see more of their offgame life in this season, and I would also have liked to se more character development. Since the whole idea of it being a videogame is kind of lost if you don’t see real life, and I also just like character development. Poor game admins, always trying to stay one step ahead of Maple! And she’s always trying to figure out new ways to make things interesting. is something most people don't understand. There are countless problems in both seasons, namely: having too many people, abilities and places. With a more concise story, it would be much easier to see everything good about this show. The best parts of the show for me are two things which many similar action manga fail at. First is the power scaling. Throughout the show, it never feels like the main character or any other characters are completely out of reach. Yes, it is clear that the main character is undoubtedly the best player, but the show repeatedly poses challenges to the characters which show the main character is not invincible and not much better than everyone else. The primary example of this is in the dynamics with the second main character (voiced by the best VA ima), where the main character is consistently outperforming her, but on many occasions, a threat, battle or challenge is shown to both of them which is only completed because of either the teamwork of each of their strengths or one of (either of) their strengths.

BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense.

Loo, Egan (December 17, 2022). "BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense. Season 2's 2nd Video Unveils January 11 Debut". Anime News Network . Retrieved December 17, 2022. Starting in May 2018, illustrator Jiro Oimoto began adapting the story into the BOFURI manga series. Serialized in Kadokawa Shoten’s Monthly Comp Ace magazine, the BOFURI manga was up to Volume 6 as of August 26, 2022. There are other issues, like the fact that the stakes and figures are never really clear, so every fight you just watch people do a thing and then it either instantly kills the enemy (bosses included), or it doesn't work. There are no numbers to ground the fight in anything, so you're just watching an abstract spectacle where it feels like everything lives and dies according to what's convenient for the story. BOFURI as it is called due to it’s absurdly long title is a rather delightful show to watch. Yes, the fact that it’s another virtual reality Isekai may be a bit eye rolling, but it does help that the show doesn’t take itself too seriously. It has a very light tone to the point that it can be considered slice-of-life, since it very much is. It basically looks into the life of a teenage girl as she has fun with her friends in the virtual space. The only thing making her stand-out from the crowd is that she naively Min-maxed a defense build that in turn led to her getting favorable results. Essentially she found a way to break the game and make herself drastically overpowered in a short amount of time. It amounts to very little aside from making boss fights and pvp tournaments very easy for her because in the end, it’s just a game.I am just saying, but it would be interesting to see the developers of "New World Online" explore the origins and purpose of the Machine God. It could add a new layer of depth and complexity to the world-building of the game and provide a fresh and exciting plotline for the characters to follow.

Still, the anime does get across the point that Maple is a walking absurdity in this game world. At the ending of each episode, the anime hints that Maple is generating buzz on bulletin boards and chat rooms. (In Episode 8, some poor rando laments being zapped to death Kazuma-style by a stray energy beam from Maple’s Machine God fight.)Urged on by her friend, Kaede Honjō begins playing the VR MMORPG NewWorld Online under the name Maple. Not wanting to get hurt, Maple opts to be a shield user with maxed-out defense stats, and continues putting every status point she earns in the game into increasing only her defense level. As a result, she is left with slow foot speed and no magic, but her high defense allows her to endure most hits without taking any damage. This, along with her basic-level creative thinking, allows for her to make unexpected accomplishments in the game, its quests and events. By doing this, she ends up earning all kinds of equally unexpected skills and becomes one of the strongest players in the game.

In season two, they rush frantically from level to level, with level four (the Japanese shinto-themed one) barely lasting for longer than a single episode, with the boss to get to level 5 treated like an absolute joke and defeated off-screen. Despite the huge increase in art and animation quality, the framing and choreography of the fights feels much more plain than what I'd come to expect from season one. If there's one piece of advice I've give for a hypothetical Season 3, it'd be to slow the hell down and let the characters/events breathe in the narrative. Bofuri: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense., Vol. 3 (manga)". Yen Press . Retrieved September 19, 2021. A manga adaptation with art by Jirō Oimoto has been serialized in Kadokawa Shoten's seinen manga magazine Comp Ace since May 2018, and collected into seven tankōbon volumes. Both the light novel and manga have been licensed in North America by Yen Press. An anime television series adaptation produced by Silver Link aired from January to March 2020. A second season aired from January to April 2023. My favorite thing about the MC, is that Maple doesn't take herself overly seriously. In fact, she doesn't do anything expecting to become OP, was conquered it was a huge deal, and acquiring new skills on Maple felt like a genuine accomplishment.Bofuri: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense., Vol. 6 (manga)". So cute! Maple is an amateur just playing the game for fun, creatinga character with extremely skewed stats (putting 100% of feir stat points toward defense). Feir play style is counterintuitive and slow, anddraws the attention of a chat board because fe was seen peacefully meditating in the forest whilemonsters swarmed over fem. Fe's adorable. The chat board, who just want to support fem from the shadows, are also adorable. The admins, even though they're jerks who constantly wish to nerf fem, are also adorable in their own way. While technically not an isekai, BOFURI could be popular enough that Maple and Sally find themselves featured in Isekai Quartet Season 3, which has already featured cameos by Cautious Hero’s Seiya and Ristarte. The bad news is that the anime adaptation has already surpassed the BOFURI manga series. The ending of BOFURI Episode 4 corresponded to the first half of manga Chapter 13 (the anime skipped the battles against the fake duplicates of Maple and Sally). BOFURI Episode 5 adapted Chapter 14 of Volume 3, which introduced the BOFURI character Kasumi.
