Description

Brethren churches are independent, each one being run by its members. Because of this, what they do will vary from one church to another. A local congregation is called an assembly and the building in which it meets is called a gospel hall. The Brethren have no ministers. Each assembly is run by a group of elders who care for the spiritual needs of the people. They are assisted by deacons who look after practical things, like repairs to the building. Usually, on Christmas Eve, observant Orthodox Christians fast till late evening, until the first star appears. When the star is seen, people lay the table ready for the Christmas supper. This makes four loaves, enough for 120 people. For reference, my current congregation of 60 people uses two loaves each Sunday with plenty left over; my former congregation of 500+ used 16 loaves. The earliest mention of Artos comes from the 12th century. It was mentioned in an ancient church story. The story connects Artos to the Most Holy Mother of God. All you do is cut off a big hunk of dough using a bench knife or a scraper and then weigh it. Add bits of dough until you reach 17 oz.

Next, the yeast is added. The yeast will change the appearance of the dough, and it should be kneaded a bit before forming into a round loaf. You will need a large mixing bowl for this. The deacon’s liturgical ministry provides an appropriate model for the ministry of an assisting priest, a Reader, or another episcopally authorized minister in a leadership ministry that complements that of the president. The ends with the Feast of Saint Peter and Saint Paul.On Christmas Day people take part in divine liturgy, after which many walk in procession to seas, rivers and lakes. Everyone gathers around in the snow for outdoor ceremonies to bless the water. Sometimes rivers are frozen, so people make holes in the ice to bless the water. Some take water home to bless their houses. Then a great feast is held indoors where everyone joins in to eat, drink and enjoy themselves. At the distribution, any of those distributing the sacrament, ordained or lay, may pray for any non-communicants who come forward in these or other suitable words: ‘May God be with you’ or ‘May God bless you’. 22 Prayers after Communion

Catholic theology generally teaches that at the Words of Institution the bread's substance is changed into the Body of Christ ( transubstantiation), whereas Eastern Christian theology generally views the epiclesis as the point at which the change occurs. Today I am sharing three recipes * that have been used in various places I have worshipped (from homes to buildings to church camps). The first one is the one our family has used for many years. I am not sure it is the original one I received from Madge, if not it is very similar. Our Family Communion BreadEach Church has its own geographical (rather than a national) title that usually reflects the cultural traditions of its believers. The president introduces a period of silent prayer with the words ‘Let us pray’ or a more specific bidding. Anyone wishing to make bread is asked to arrive by 11a.m. To share in other parts of the fellowship - coffee, conversation, Reflections and lunch - people arrive at any time from mid-morning This is the oven, warm and waiting, that heated the stone all seasoned and worn that supported the salt, briny and sharp that seasoned the oil, golden and pure that anointed the flour all powdered and white that formed the gluten when combined with the milk that mixed with the honey that wakened the yeast that raised the bread that I kneaded and made for communion. For monk and nun alike, their spiritual life should follow the same way of living that all Christians try to achieve by following God's commandants. While not being against marriage, it is generally accepted that celibacy in the Church allows for a closer understanding of the Christian life away from worldly things. Fasting and prayer
