Description

The Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab regularly tests silk pillowcases — along with other silk products like silk sheets, silk pajamas and silk scrunchies — to see which ones are smoothest, most durable and most comfortable to sleep on. Over 92% of users prefer sleeping on a slip® pure silk pillowcase over their ordinary cotton or synthetic (non-silk) satin pillowcase. Consumer tests: Last but not least, we send the pillowcases to at-home reviewers to sleep on for weeks then provide feedback on aspects like comfort, bed-head resistance, skin-crease prevention and temperature regulation. Silk pillowcases are widely recognized for their beauty benefits: The ultra-smooth surface allows skin and hair to easily glide over the fabric, thereby reducing friction. In fact, one said it felt almost too cold when she first used it, making it especially great for hot sleepers.

It feels exceptionally smooth, though we found that its smoothness faded a bit after repeated washings. This makes all the difference because friction from traditional pillowcases can cause skin creases (which may cause wrinkles over time) as well as frizz and bedhead, so switching to a silk pillowcase helps reduce this effect. It’s presented in a box that we’ve reused many times for storage and travelling, because our tester likes to take it away on trips too. I was curious to try these pillowcases out after reading about the benefits of silk in a beauty magazine and I haven't been disappointed, my hair and skin felt much smoother from the first night! In the winter, it provides an insulation barrier, creating an air pocket between the lattice structure to warm you up into that optimum temperature band.

The fabric wicked moisture exceptionally well in Lab tests, which means it can help keep you cool throughout the night. It stood out from other silk pillowcases for being moisture-wicking and durable (despite some shrinkage in the wash) ; in fact, it didn't show any signs of wear in our Lab's rigorous abrasion tests.Silk's natural fibres are hypoallergenic, making them ideal for people with sensitive skin, as it is highly resistant to dustmites and bacteria. We include our extremely popular 100% mulberry silk pillowcases with a range of other little treats such as chocolate, room scents, face masks, and eye masks. It's also available in a 19-momme silk fabric that costs slightly less and a 30-momme option that costs more. Getting a good nights sleep on a lux pillowcase will reduce fine lines and even hydrate your skin while you sleep by helping your skin retain moisture.
