Infant skin problems, including dry skin, can be caused by unnecessary skin products. Many babies won’t need lotion. In fact, most babies’ skin generally doesn’t need much of anything other than an occasional sponge bath. It’s normal for babies’ skin to go through some transitions as they adjust to life outside the womb in the first few days and weeks, so don’t be alarmed if you notice some acne or peeling early on. Keep in mind that less is more and most babies don’t need lotion, to begin with. If you decide to use lotion on your baby, you may want to consider applying it after bathtime to maximize their skin’s ability to retain moisture, according to Solomonian.

The saturated nature of coconut oil also means that it is a heavy-duty-oil ideal for dry skin types. A double-blind research confirmed that extra virgin coconut oilis as effective in treating xerosis (aka very dry skin) as mineral oil.Another study found that coconut oil is more effective than mineral oil in treatingmild to moderate atopic dermatitis (aka eczema) in children. This ingredient works with other ingredients to moisturize baby's skin. Naturally derived from palm oil.

You might have seen all sorts of claims on social media and the internet when it comes to looking after your baby, including what's best to put on their skin. Having healthy skin is dependent on an adequate supply of a variety of key nutrients. If you’re nursing, this will come from your breastmilk, and if you’re formula-feeding, this should come from the formula. We spoke to cosmetic scientist Dr Barbara Olioso of The Green Chemist Consultancy, to find out what's in baby lotion and why moisturising is so important for delicate newborn skin.

Atopic dermatitis, or what is commonly called eczema, can be triggered by diet, which can look like dryness, explains Leslie Solomonian, a naturopathic physician and associate professor at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. Our synthetic ingredient derived from lauric acid helps keep the ingredients in our baby lotion from separating and gives it a consistent texture. Lauric acid can also be found naturally in coconut oil. Sodium Hydroxide

Typically, these products are claimed to be hypoallergenic and 'formulated to minimise the risk of allergies', as well as free of known fragrance allergens.

As well as moisturising, baby lotion needs to be gentle and not harsh when you use it as part of your baby's skincare routine. Helps provide desired consistency and supports optimal application experience. Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil This group of ingredients has been carefully chosen to work together to maintain high quality by helping prevent the formula from separating, losing its texture, or growing mold and bacteria. CarbomerHowever, Dr Olioso explains it's still possible that some people may react to ingredients other than fragrance, including preservatives. This ingredient works with other ingredients to moisturize baby's skin. Naturally derived from vegetable oil. Isopropyl Palmitate
