Memory size (Flash): 16 G, the actual available disc space may differ (dependant on e.g. (pre-)installed apps, installed operating system, etc.) The set's bezel is significantly narrower than that of the OLED806, which itself was pretty slinky. This is made possible by Philips switching to one of the latest EX type of OLED panels. The frame is so skinny, in fact, that it plays beautifully with Philips' Ambilight system, making the coloured illumination that comes from all four sides feel even more connected with the images you're watching. Driving this new grade of panel, meanwhile, is a new version of Philips’ P5 picture engine. Previous generations of this system, which applies dozens of separate processing elements to five core picture elements (contrast, colour, motion, sharpness and source detection) have already eked out levels of peak brightness that have eluded OLED rivals. In combination with the OLED EX panel, it's quite a spectacle. In its Game mode the 55OLED907 takes just under 20ms to render its images. That’s slightly higher than the 55OLED807, oddly, but slightly less than the OLED937. It’s also around double the number we’re getting now from some TVs, including LG’s OLEDs, but in truth only the most serious gamers will feel that this has a significant impact on their gaming skills.

This helps the 55OLED807 maintain Philips reputation for fearsome sharpness and clarity with both 4K and upscaled HD sources. It seems too, though, that Philips' processing has got cleverer at enhancing sharpness without exaggerating source noise or looking forced. Its Pure Cinema or Movie motion settings also now provide great options for gently reducing judder with 24 frames a second sources without the picture starting to suffer with the over-smooth soap opera effect or distracting processing side effects. But while the 55OLED807 is a clear improvement on its already illustrious predecessor, and while Philips' processing improvements do better at automatically selecting the best picture settings for different sources, there are a few little niggles to discuss.

Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying a live scene and white square taking up 10% of the screen (measured in Nits) Philips has stayed loyal to the Android TV platform for a few years now, so it won't surprise you to hear that the company's 2022 smart TVs get the most recent version – Android TV 11. This features both Google Assistant Built-in, via push to talk on the remote, and Works with Alexa compatibility. The OLED807 models take Philips’ expertise with gaming to an even higher level. Game Bar lets you adjust the picture settings whilst gaming is in progress. Picture presets optimise the settings for different game genres – such as Shooter and Role Play. With support for VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode), you get a great gaming experience with exceptionally low input lag. Unique to Philips, Ambilight’s gaming mode brings another dimension of immersion.

Inevitably the 55OLED907’s rear has to accommodate a more substantial section containing connections, processing, speakers and the Ambilight LEDs over the central portion of its bottom half, but you need to be looking at the TV from a pretty severe angle before this bulkier bit becomes visible past the ultra-skinny edges.Ultra HD, Wide Color Gamut, Perfect Natural Motion, Micro Dimming Perfect, IMAX Enhanced, Filmmaker Mode USB recording for digital channels only, recordings may be limited by broadcast copy protection (CI+). Country and channel restrictions may apply. There's support for both AMD FreeSync Premium and Nvidia G-Sync VRR formats, and input lag on 1080p/60Hz signals measured 15.1ms in my tests. Not the absolute lowest in town, but low enough to likely not significantly contribute to a poor gaming performance. The ratio between the horizontal and the vertical side of the display. Some of the standard and widely used aspect ratios are 4:3, 5:4, 16:9 and 16:10. There are fans of Ambilight who swear by the technology, but if you’re a video purist who doesn’t fancy disco lighting behind the TV, there is another benefit. Ambilight offers a neutral white setting that acts as a bias light and has a number of key advantages, such as improving the perceived contrast, and also creates a more comfortable viewing experience at night.
