One of the red axles running the length of the underside wings rotates the blades while the other tilts the engines. Although there have been many military sets in the past, none was licensed, thats the big issue whit this one. If the reason is a technical flaw, perhaps there are justifiable reasons, like the motorized parts not being fully developed by the time the set was being designed. Yes that is certainly possible but I don't think they will move any more than the original trio can. i have already purchased this set (argos UK) and after building the set found the problem, but not to be defeated i have modified the gearbox, the small gears are reasonably strong tbh but are positioned in the wrong place, so I have moved the 3 drive gears to the rear of the gearbox, so giving them extra fixed support, although that then needs modifying the rear actuator mounts.

And that's also a really interesting finding, but --- just like the military-air-craft theory --- it still begs the question of why didn't anyone notice this was going to be a problem, months and months ago? However, the gearbox contains a serious design flaw, the likes of which we've never encountered in a Technic model before. However, while LEGO has not released a licensed modern military set, it has released some that bear striking resemblances to modern military vehicles. Still, it is nearly impossible to motorize them as they are thin and relatively small compared to the wings’ size.

A bit odd though that such a problem passed through all quality reviews and controls and was up to be on shelves. Now if this was truly the reason for its' shelving, then I would assume they could make the fix and reintroduce it. The sets from this theme mimic the functionality from reality and the sets look more and more like the real vehicles. The German Peace Society organized a petition to halt LEGO’s production, and combined with broader questions from the LEGO fan community over LEGO’s licensing of this military aircraft, LEGO has today made the decision to halt rollout of the set.

The first thing I tried was to replace them with bushes and elastic bands but it did not transfer enough torque so it didn't work. Let's say a wing mirror was prone to lopsided but can be an easily fixed with manufacturer supplied parts. While the set clearly depicts how a rescue version of the plane might look, the aircraft is only used by the military. These gears are one of the softest available when you settle down to check all the LEGO Technic gears.
