Although at one point, Bradshaw uses his intimacy with Pregnitz to lure him into an intrigue on behalf of Norris. Although Isherwood was living more or less openly as a homosexual, he balked at making Bradshaw homosexual as well. The correction of simple eyelid malpositions such as ectropion (out-turning of the lower eyelid), entropion (in-turning) and ptosis (drooping of the upper eyelids).

As a thank you for the provision of some much-needed moral support, Norris invites Bradshaw to join him for lunch, and by the time the train pulls into the city station the two men have struck up a rather unlikely friendship, agreeing to meet for tea at Norris’ flat the following Saturday. The Lost was initially planned as a much more comprehensive work, but Isherwood jettisoned much of the material and many of the characters, including Sally Bowles, the Nowaks and the Landauers, to focus on Mr Norris. Mr Norris is a trained Ophthalmologist who has developed a specialist interest in oculoplastic (eyelid), lacrimal (tear duct) and orbital (eye socket) surgery. Mr Norris has worked as a Trustee for the Madagascan Organisation for Saving Sight (MOSS) and has taken part in two trips as a member of Overseas Partnering and Training Initiative (OPTIN). In addition to his business interests, Norris also has links with the Communist Party, an activity that brings Bradshaw into contact with one of the movers and shakers in the group, a certain Ludwig Bayer. As he spoke he touched his left temple delicately with his finger-tips, coughed, and suddenly smiled. The bestselling LGBTQ+ graphic novel about life, love, and everything that happens in between: this is the fifth volume of the Heartstopper series.

He clearly does not have a great deal of faith in the Communists, who are almost as much schemers as the Nazis.

While working as a private tutor in Berlin in the 1930s, the English author Christopher Isherwood wrote Mr Norris Changes Trains, a novel set in the city during the final years of the Weimar Republic. Norris Changes Trains, 1935; Lions and Shadows, 1938; Goodbye to Berlin, 1939, 1st UK editions, half titles, portrait frontispiece to Lions and Shadows, a few light spots, all edges gilt, recent full morocco gilt by James Brockman, Oxford, 8vo, together with The Mortmere Stories, by Christopher Isherwood and Edward Upward, introduced by Katherine Bucknell, illustrated by Graham Crowley, Enitharmon Press, 1994, limited signed edition 19/50 (contained in a solander box), 8vo, and People One Ought to Know, illustrated by Sylvain Mangeot, 1st edition, 1982, also contained in a solander box.

Isherwood may be using this form of sexual content to show the difference between fantasy and reality.its background is the Berlin of 193-33 a city of prostitutes and political gunmen, on the edge of starvation and civil war. However, the ending is questionable as to whether Norris ever really pays for the consequences of his actions.
