As you can get quite a lot of hair between the plates at once, it took around 15 minutes to fully straighten my shoulder-length hair in four sections. I was impressed with the results: shiny hair that felt soft and silky with just a small amount of static. I’ve had this kind of result from straighteners before, only to find that I have fluffy and frizzy hair come lunchtime, but these really did go the distance, and my hair was just as satisfyingly sleek by evening. Photo: Emma Hobday My overall thoughts on the Remington PROluxe You Adaptive Hair Dryer I loved the idea of a styler that adapts to my hair, but I can’t truthfully say that I’ve seen a difference from a standard curler. Positioned at the front of the hair dryer underneath the cold shot button is a hexagon shaped sensor.But this was no ordinary launch, oh no — it was the first ever AI hair care range, called Remington PROluxe You, whereby AI technology learns and adapts the heat of its tools (including the aforementioned hair dryer and curler, plus a straightener, hot brush and hot air styler) to your personal styling wants and needs. Impressive, eh? This is hotter than I would usually go (for reference, my GHD Platinum+ hair straightener is set at 185°C) and I haven’t yet tested for long enough to see how this would impact the health of my hair. It is a catch-22 situation, as I would need to pass over each section of hair multiple times using these straighteners at lower temperatures, compared to just one pass at a higher heat setting.For these reasons, I’d be likely to switch between adaptive and manual modes. The three metre long cord also helped make styling an easier experience, as I can’t bear too-short styling cords that mean you can’t move from one spot. So, is it worth it? But if you’re perfectly happy with your current hair dryer and hair curler, and aren’t overly fussed about having personalised hair tools, I wouldn’t necessarily feel that you need the Remington Proluxe range. I sprayed some heat protection spray, loaded up Beyoncé’s greatest hits and set the curler at 180°, which I felt was an accurate temperature for my hair type. I’m a bit of a control freak, so although it’s the key selling point of the styler, I personally didn’t love relinquishing control of the heat settings in the adaptive mode. As I do use heat regularly, I want to keep split ends to a minimum so tend to use my straighteners on a hotter setting after washing, and then on a cooler one for touch-ups in between. For the tool to learn about your hair, you need to wrap your hair around the StyleAdapt sensor that takes the form of a raised bar that’s approximately 4cm long on the underside of the wand, and wait 10-20 seconds for your hair to curl, whilst an LED indicator spins to show that the styler is learning about your hair.
