Description

Mills: Water mills were the main source of power besides oxen: more than 6,000 are recorded in Domesday. The village developed as an agricultural hamlet, but during the 19th century, worsted mills were opened up on the south side of the village adjoining the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Delightfully situated in an idyllic location enjoying outstanding views is a beautifully presented three bedroom detached period home offering deceptively spacious liv. Micklethwaite-Grange is a very small liberty in the Upper division of the wapentake of Barkstone-Ash, in the West Riding of Yorkshire.

From here the road climbs steeply, skirting the village green, where the view down the hill and over the roof tops has changed little in nearly 200 years. As a family, we love action-packed, fun-filled days out, but there is something about a simple day out in nature in autumn that I just love to clear the cobwebs. Delightfully situated on a prestigious residential development is a superbly presented and executive style four bedroom detached home standing in good sized well maint. Undoubtedly, the woollen trade originated during monastic times, but the earliest evidence in the village, probably dating back to the early 1700s, is a unique stretch of warp peg holes along the walls adjacent to the road.

Domesday carefully records the owners of each manor (estate) in 1086, as these were the people liable for tax. The oldest dwelling is Micklethwaite Grange, probably built for Drax Priory in the 13th century and reconstructed for Robert and Mary Leach in 1695. The bridge at Micklethwaite, known to the canal as bridge 199, is built on ancient road connect Bingley with Ilkley over Hawksworth Moor.
