I installed a Kreg plate in the router table extension and since my Dewalt router has both a plunge and fixed base, the fixed base is attached to the router plate. The table legs can be folded up quickly, and there is a handle next to the table, which can be easily lifted and easy to transport and storage. Not only does this give you more control and enable you to work more efficiently, it’s also easier and safer.

I have gone through painstaking measures to make sure that I am able to keep the space clean and easy to work in. The Router Plate comes with 7 insert rings including a combination ring; the combination of guide bush and cutter gives infinitely variable offset variations. To make the fence, I simply connected strips of plywood with screws and added some supports to keep the fence square.The good news is, we provide a variety of router tables at Kendal Tools – including floor-standing models and bench-top options. So I ended up tapping out the standard thread to metric equivalent and then both metric and standard worked in the same inert nut. The plate is square on one end and circular on the other and the circular side has only one adjustment screw to keep the plate flush to the tabletop. A pair of adjustable extruded aluminium in and out-feed fences can be opened and closed allowing the use of a wide range of cutters (not recommended for panel raising or large cutters).

I believe you are expected to drill your own holes and making it flush is more than I had patience for. The hole I chose to cut was 5 inches square so I had to make a cutting jig of suitable size to make that hole for the new plastic base to be fitted into. Vertical and horizontal feather boards are supplied and apply pressure to keep the work tight against the fence and table to prevent kickback and reduce chatter. The pilot hole was then used to as a guide to ensure my forstner bit would ease into the hole so I could countersink for each of the bolts. I think you will find that you will utilize it just as much as added table top space for assembling as for routing. One thing about the open below any chips not caught in the vacuum will be on the floor easy to sweep up and not into the shelves below as in a conventional table.
