I know it's a take on Funny Games and that's what they do but I just think that the author has more talent than just straight only gore scenes. I liked how Jefferson explained to the reader how profilers worked and how offenders have signatures to their behaviour. Several times, I found myself on the verge of nausea, terrified for our protagonists and heart-wrenched by their predicament.The very end did shake me a bit because it gave an idea of where his "cousin" originally came from, and showed that he probably repeats this cycle pretty often. Jefferson is haunted by these words but in this book this isn't really followed up and though this is a series I don't expect Jefferson to join in on the madness that his father was. Working with Hatcher and the beautiful DS Sophie Templeton, Winter applies his detective and profiler skills to investigate every clue or lead, even longshots, to trace the perpetrator of these horrific crimes. If you've read Dead Inside by Chandler Morrison, you'll have some sort of idea of what I'm talking about here, and Dead Inside is now one of my most favourite extreme horror books ever!
