The Gruffalo Discovery Land is an accesible trail through a woodland that allows families to explore the story in an inventive new way. Visitors can also meet father and son duo, Itzatna Arts, on selected dates to bring to life the magic of animals and traditional Mexican culture, through immersive storytelling and a variety of traditional central and southern American games. You soon have your first meeting with the Gruffalo - which is the perfect opportunity for family photos.

This is interspersed with special visitor tunnels where excerpts from the animated Gruffalo adventure are shown with more games and puzzles for kids. There are interactive exhibits where kids can press a button and part of the story is told as its magical creatures emerge.As you venture through, there are also the live animal enclosures to explore - including the large snake tanks that will get plenty of oohs from little visitors. Twycross Zoo in the Midlands has long been known as the home of hundreds of wild animals from across the world and popular for family days out. The Gruffalo trail is also cleverly created so that young visitors can see the larger than life characters from the books - and then their real life counterparts in enclosures throughout the trail. For little animal lovers, there will be a fun-filled, free-of-charge, arts and crafts station where children can create their very own colourful parrot masks.The zoo is showcasing the fascinating stories and traditions of Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a holiday which originated in Mexico, with some added wonders from the natural world. Throughout half term, visitors can further celebrate Dia de Los Muertos, by enjoying a variety of tasty Mexican treats at Twycross Zoo’s ‘The View’ restaurant. There's even a Gruffalo cafe to take a break from all those stories of owl ice cream and scrambled snake.

And handily for parents, there's also a mini adventure playground outside to keep youngsters entertained at this pit stop too. There's a zoo not far from Manchester that boasts a magical deep dark wood inspired by the Gruffalo. Visitors are invited to take a stroll through the deep dark wood - which is accessed just through the main entrance to the zoo. The Gruffalo said that no gruffalo should ever set foot in the deep dark wood… But one wild and windy night the Gruffalo’s child ignores her father’s warning and tiptoes out into the snow.You can then walk through a fully wheel-accessible trail to watch the classic Julia and Axel story unfold. Visitors can walk through a huge Gibbon forest, as well as feed the lorikeets in a large walk-through enclosure.
