We are so delighted that following Iona’s on board gin distillery we are, once again, innovating with this first rum distillery at sea on Arvia which will be so fitting in the Caribbean sunshine. Arvia will join the P&O Cruises fleet in December 2022, her maiden voyage will be to the Canary Islands, followed by a winter season in the Caribbean. She will be the largest ship to sail from her home port of Barbados, offering guests a choice of holidays, ranging from 7 to 22 nights, with an overnight stay in Barbados and an extended call to Antigua on many holidays. She will join sister ship, Iona as one of the world’s most environmentally-friendly ships, fully powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). A long and rich finish that gives more than a typical rum. As the caramel and bitter orange fade away, the deep truffle flavour of Pepper Dulse is left, a reminder of the sea. Harry Coulthard, co-founder of The Tidal Rum said they wanted to bring together the finest rums from the Caribbean with the fresh notes of coastal botanicals from the shores of Britain’s islands. The result is a beautifully complex and refined craft rum balanced with deep truffle flavours from our oak-smoked Pepper Dulse seaweed. Our signature serve “ The Tidal” is a simple double measure of Tidal, soda and half a fresh lime squeezed in. Jersey has an exceptionally large tidal range (up to forty feet). This enables those who know where to look to forage, on foot, for ingredients that would normally require deep diving. This coupled with the unique microclimate provide the perfect conditions to access a sustainable supply of tidal botanicals, such as Pepper Dulse. After foraging a fresh batch of Pepper Dulse we sun dry, oak smoke and then infuse our bespoke blended rum with it . This gives Tidal Rum its unique flavour. The new rum will be distilled exclusively for P&O Cruises on board Arvia whilst she sails in the Caribbean, and the recipe will be recreated on the mainland by The Tidal Rum. Made to an exclusive recipe, this sun-drenched spirit blends flavours of the region with marine botanicals from the British Isles to celebrate togetherness and the enchantment of travels to island shores. A golden aged rum blend, born in the Caribbean, slowly aged in oak casks and infused with rare marine botanicals gathered on Jersey’s full moon tides. Rum blending class: A unique experience which will take place in Anderson’s Bar on board Arvia, where a rum expert will show guests how to create their own delicious spirit with ingredients from the Caribbean and British coasts. A fun and hands-on session allowing guests to take home their own bottle of rum as a golden memory of their Caribbean holiday.
