Description
Necrons seem to have the most weapons with Critical Hit modifiers, so seeing this change is a huge win. I’m not going to go into a great amount of detail, as I wouldn’t want to spoil anything, however I was really impressed with the content, it’s the best lore I’ve read in a Codex so far.
The basic Overlord also has changed, and you now have locked-in options for all your “leadership” which is a weird one. Simple, clean, very effective and now exceptionally good with Canoptek Wraiths, because Technomancers are now eligible to lead them. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice.
There probably are still occasions when you’ll want 10 – a full unit with an Overlord runs you 255pts, where previously the cheapest sensible build was over 400pts.
After seeing many codex reviews, I'll preface with the "I'll ultimately wait until some game data is collected", but my gutt check so far is we took more hits than quality of life improvements. Having emerged from millions of years of self-imposed stasis, they now awaken from their tomb worlds, ready to assert their dominance once again. For those Infantry blocks, you’ve got two upgrades – the classic Veil of Darkness, providing a once-per-game teleport for the unit, and the Nether-Realm Casket, which gives a unit Stealth. A blessing because fans of the race haven’t had to wait long for a brand new book, but a curse as sometimes the books can take a little time to ‘settle’ into the edition. Cautiously hopeful that the crusade stuff and potential detachment fun will be enough to make up for it, if I can find a way to get my wraiths to and from games safely without busting their coils, but if not I’ll just hit the rewind button. The Annihilation Legion* wants one thing above all else – to wreak utter destructive havoc – and they’re frighteningly effective at getting to grips in close combat when the Annihilation Protocol sets in. All in all – still good strats supporting an all-rounder list, and this detachment should certainly see some experimentation unless the Canoptek Court completely outmodes it. Codex: Necrons is an essential guide for anyone who wants to collect Necrons and display the might of their phaeron on the tabletop.
