People from the outside who don't know them would have seen them as a toxic couple, but Cassidy and Max know each other best and what they want from each other so that other people's opinions don't matter. This one had the slight edge for me on the previous book in the series and this one unlike the first is definitely set firmly in the criminal underbelly. As she picks up the broken puzzle pieces of her life and begins arranging them, Cassidy truly begins to mature and I couldn't help but tear up to see my little girl all grown up. My main problems with it are I remember the author used the word "penis" instead of "dick" or "cock," the way most books use. I enjoyed the complexity of Cassidy's character and the tremendous growth she's made throughout the series.

The story starts off with Cassidy finishing a dance tour and heading home to her 18th birthday party with her gay best friend Toni. Also, the female mc had the same name as me so that made her terribly annoying personality even more infuriating. Cassidy’s brother Konnor comes back into town with his new girlfriend blesk, but Konnor wants answers, he wants to know who his father is? Even at almost half way through, Im still throughly confused about who is even involved in the mysterious, big bad “stop asking questions, Cassidy” backstory/mystery.

Book 1 is solely from Cassidys POV and then Book 2 from duel POV of both Cassidy and Max which I love to see. I read this a while ago, so this review won't be very detailed, but this is a good read if you like the tropes of mafia, virgin girl / experienced guy, jealous /possessive hero, classy girl/ rough guy, and surprise pregnancy towards the end. This is Cassidy Slater and Max Butchers story Cassidy is the baby Sister of Konnor and Max is a key player in the district. Loved this book and even though it’s a big longer then I usually read I found myself sad that it was over.I may be a silly little girl to him, but he's intent on protecting, possessing, and claiming me in every way-his little piece of purity. Cosa Nostra: I don’t even know where to start or how to put into words how much I loved this book -this series. You know, a handsome huge gangster is considerate and patient more than you and same time dying from his longing for you and same time boiling for revenge for who did this to you. This story leads you into the dark underbelly of The District through the eyes of a young ballerina named Cassidy.

Nicci brings them all to life with her writing and you just want desperately for them to have their HEA. the book is about dense Cassidy who has a major crush on Max Butcher and convinces herself that a sexual relationship would be enough for her. Oh Nicci Nicci Nicci, just when I thought my poor heart couldn't take another beating you reached through the pages, ripped it out, and ran it through the grinder shredding me completely.

These 2 had it rough, but their unwavering love for one another was just beautiful, something good in amongst the darkness.
