Put on a Bus: Lev Tieron retires at the end of the first book, passing his job - and his point-of-view slot - to his assistant, Jek. Golden Light of the Moiraides (Dread Host) – 1/2CP: Use at the start of your Charge phase. Select one Dread Host unit that teleported into battle this turn for 1CP, or up to three for 2CP. Until the end of the phase, you can roll 3D6 and discard one for charge rolls for those units. If you’re going all-in on a deep striking plan, this is a great way to give you that bit extra oomph for getting into combat. B Awakening the Sleeping Giant: Lev Tieron believes that the Custodes are a Sleeping Giant, as ten thousand Super- Super Soldiers could help swing the balance of battle in favour of the Imperium - if they were allowed outside of the Palace. His plot in The Emperor's Legion revolves around trying to awaken said giant.

In the 8th Edition of Warhammer 40k, we saw the Adeptus Custodes come into their own as a fighting force. With new models, new characters, and new rules, they became far more than a diversion from Space Marines; they became something that stands alone, with a unique golden flavour. Now, in 9th Edition, they’re even more refined, benefiting from many rule changes in the newer version of Warhammer 40k, andmaking an appearance in somecompetitive lists. Among the Warhammer 40kImperium armies of Space Marinesand transhuman warriors, the Adeptus Custodes are the elite of the elite. They stand guard over the Emperor and his Imperium, the last line of defence between civilisation and eternalChaos. Though the Captain-General traditionally only served as one of the High Lords of Terra under the most dire of circumstances, as during the War of the Beast, the fervent persistence of Chancellor Lev Tieron persuaded Valoris to take the seat left open by Lord Brach. Tieron had hoped that Valoris would serve as the High Lords' deciding vote to abolish the Lex Imperialis, which would allow the Custodes to leave Terra and fight against the Despoiler's forces [1a], but the Captain-General disagreed with this. He was about to vote no against the abolition and defeat the measure when pandemonium broke out as word of Cadia's destruction reached the High Lords' chambers. [1b] Later it is revealed that Valoris had been quietly preparing the Custodes for war for some time and had possibly issued a summons for the reformation of the Sisters of Silence years in advance, making it suspect that his objection might have been a ploy to avoid tensions with the High Lords. [1e]Performing such sacred and important roles, the Captain-General is considered a very influential figure and serves as an important member of the Senatorum Imperialis and one of the ruling High Lords of the Imperium. However, throughout Imperial history, few captain-generals have chosen to exercise this right, preferring to focus solely on their duties to the Emperor rather than Imperial politics. You then make a Charge roll for the charging unit by rolling 2D6. The result is the maximum number of inches each model in that unit can be moved if a Charge move is possible. For a Charge move to be possible, the Charge roll must be sufficient to enable the charging unit to end that move: Custodes have some interesting traits, and they get even better now that you can take multiple if you want to. Watchers of the Throne is a series of Warhammer 40K novels by Chris Wright. They take place at roughly the same time as the game's "Gathering Storm" campaign, which advanced the plot of the setting. Currently, the series is comprised of: In the base codex, Custodes have a great set of stratagems, many of which are good and which look even better now that a Custodes army actually takes the field with a reasonable number of command points.

The Adeptus Custodes are, as we’ve said earlier in this article, an army made of a small number of units. So, to balance this out, it’s clear Games Workshop has ensured each individual Adeptus Custodes model sings. From the sheer level of detail on your so-called ‘basic troops’, the Custodian Guards, to the fluid, aggressive styling of the ornate Dawneagle jetbikes, every Adeptus Custodes model is a wonder to behold, that only gets better, the closer you get to it.

Being Captain-General is a heavy responsibility for any shoulders, even the metres-wide set you’ll find on a Custodian. Not only is Trajann Valoris responsible for the defence of the Sol System, Terra, the Imperial Palace, and the Emperor, he also oversees the actions of all Custodes, planning their sorties and missions personally. If that wasn’t all, he’s also a High Lord of Terra, bringing governance of the Imperium into his daily role. The Unfought: Asterion Moloc, the Minotaurs' Chapter Master, is hyped up as an extremely deadly warrior, and his men serve as The Heavies throughout the second book, but despite coming within inches of battling Valerian, the new Master of the Administratum convinces him to leave before the two can come to blows. These Imperatives challenge you to fulfil certain conditions and reward you with various bonuses. You’ll need to complete all of the Imperatives within an Endeavour to claim its rewards, but they’re worth it. All for Nothing: In The Emperor's Legion, Tieron's efforts to assemble the High Lords to free the Custodes to operate outside the palace ultimately amount to naught. The proposition is about to get voted down when the Days of Blindness strike, and afterwards, Guilliman is in charge and passes the act by himself. Moreover, it turns out that the Custodes have already been operating freely outside the Palace for millennia.

When setting objective markers up on the battlefield, place them so they are centred on the point specified by the mission. When measuring distances to and from objective markers, measure to and from the closest part of them. Models can move over objective markers as if they were not there, but they cannot end a move on top of an objective marker. Karma Houdini: Not counting their losses in the battle with the Custodes, the Minotaurs are never punished for siding with Imperium Eterna, despite the fact that assaulting the Custodians would spell death for any other Chapter. This allowed a large host of Khornate Daemons to burst through the skein of reality to assail Terra itself, in a conflict that came to be known as the Battle of Lion's Gate or informally as the Second Battle of Terra. Little escapes the eyes of his ever expanding spy network and, armed with the certainty of the truly righteous, his covert strikes have annihilated dozens of threats to the Golden Throne. There’s a reason the Adeptus Custodes are an elite force – and your opponent will learn that lesson swiftly after you’ve deployed this Stratagem against them once or twice!

Villain with Good Publicity: Imperium Eterna's goal in The Regent's Shadow is to become this; by setting up and supporting the Splintered, they "prove" that the Reform Council is unable to keep the peace on Terra, while they swoop in and destroy them. Big Bad: In The Regent's Shadow, Irthu Haemotalion, who leads the Imperium Eterna after Guilliman removes him from his position as the Master of the Administratum. Open the Vaults – 1/3CP: The standard relic stratagem, 1 extra relic for 1CP or 2 for 3CP. Yeah it’s the relic stratagem. There’s some great Custodes relics, so this can be very worthwhile.Surprisingly high skill floor – your units are great but there aren’t many of them, and getting the most out of the army takes some thought Using this box’s contents alone, you’d have to make the hard choice of subtracting models – you could individually take away a Custodian Guard or Allarus Custodian, but were it me, I would take out the Captain-General Trajann Valoris. While he is a very powerful HQ unit, he eats points like a Tyranid hive fleet, and by taking him out, you have 95 points left over to spend. Naturally, this would mean having to buy an extra unit of something to make a battle-ready list, which is not ideal. To make a legal list, I would subtract the good Captain-General and sub in a squad of Sisters of Silence to have some infantry to even things out, leaving the heavy hitting to the already busting Custodes. Aesoth Koumadra - Aesoth Koumadra was the Chief Custodian and Captain-General of the Adeptus Custodes sometime between the 33rd and 39th Millennia. Obstructive Code of Conduct: The Edict of Restraint forbids the Custodes from leaving the Imperial Palace ( at least openly, as Custodes have always been coming and going from the Palace in secret). Tieron's goal in The Emperor's Legion is to have it repealed so that the Legion can be committed to the defense of Cadian Gate. Earth – or Terra, as it’s known in the far future – wasn’t always united under the Emperor. For millennia, He worked from the shadows to influence humanity, but, once the nascent human empire faded into the Age of Strife, He took matters into his own hands. Over time, He built vast human armies to conquer the fractured nations of Terra – but even that wasn’t enough to finish the job – so, instead, He literally built an army.
