Having said all this, I do have a few great shots from the several rolls of 120 that I have put through my H And at a time when it felt like camera technology (and technology in general) alienated old-school shooters with every innovation, the Holga stood defiant with its simple meniscus lens and homely plastic body. I tend to use Ilford HP5 in my Holga - its so flipping reliable that it’s one less thing to worry about! If you are shooting at night and a street light or some other light source is causing you to see flaring in the viewfinder, you can bet that it will be just as bad or worse in your image. Filters come in special effect filters, color filters, and center spot filters (which leaves a normal center, but a colored surrounding).

If you’re not a fan of the light leaks, Holga pros recommend taping up the gaps in the camera casing with black tape. At the time, 120 roll film in black-and-white was the most widely available film in neighbouring China.

So on a partly cloudy to sunny day, effectively treat the camera like a point and shoot and just fire away. I’ve checked these distances by putting a piece of ground glass in the back of one of mine and measuring distances to subject and its fairly close. Light leaks in a Holga usually originate from the red window, the two holes above the film gate, unwanted detachment of the back, or when removing a loosely-wound finished roll.N is normal, which is said to be around 1/100 of a second, and B is bulb, which keeps the shutter open until you tell it to close again. The photo turned out really dark but I did a some cool imprint of the number and some dots that are printed on the back of the film!
