ed è un peccato che il suo personaggio sia stato mostrato solo come "oggetto amoroso" o "soggetto carnefice", senza che questi due aspetti si coniugassero in alcun modo, soprattutto in prospettiva del finale, anch'esso frettoloso.

Blue Hunger’s is a disorientating world made strange by grief — a world where words have lost their meaning, and identity fragments. To read Blue Hunger is to enter a dreamlike state, guided by irresistible, evocative writing, immaculate details, and vivid emotions dripping with desire.

They begin an affair, and Xu's treatment of the narrator becomes increasingly brutal over the long autumn and winter through which their relationship unfolds. The narrator experiences China as “the country of philosophy and sex dolls” and Shanghai as a feverish dreamscape, a place of “water the color of arsenic. The love is unrequited, yet Ruben is determined to exercise her obsession, insisting on disappearing herself to dampen her grief.Esta es una historia de amor entre una profesora de italiano y Xu, una chica japonesa, que me ha hecho sufrir mucho. Food, biting, and consumption, perhaps unsurprisingly, remain motifs throughout, an uneasy blend of delicacy, sensuality, and the grotesque. Still, it’s an enjoyable read, if you can get past the odd slightly uncomfortable moment, and Richards’ work is excellent, too. That Xu is undeniably wrong for Ruben matters little; Blue Hunger is a novel about wrongness, just as it is about displacement, and the depths we sink to when assailed by inescapable grief.
